Hey Guys,

This looks really really great although i can’t seem to install this at all.
I have copied all of the directories across to my web server on media temple...although when i go to the website now it cannot find the /install/ directory and i couldn’t find this other than in the “skin” folder....

Anybody know what i’m doing wrong here?? I’m really confused!!

Thanks guys!

Hi Apoure,

There’s no install folder in filesystem, it is a virtual folder. You have to have mod_rewrite enabled to run it (mod_rewrite is enabled on media temple servers by default).

Thank you.

Hey Michael,

Thanks for that I understand that part, although if it is set by default to on, then what else may be causing this installation to not function correctly??

Thanks Michael! smile

This definitely sounds as if you’re having a problem with the mod_rewrite rules in your .htaccess file. If you still can’t get the installation script to run try writing a couple of test rewrite rules to make sure it’s working ok on your server.

I’m using lighttpd and I’ve got exactly the same problem: Just a screen with the message “404 - Not Found”.

It would be great, if someone could help me to run Magento with lighty.

I’m using lighttpd

Hi rivella,

Is there any way to use mod_rewrite-like rewrites ? Check th .htaccess file and try to update lighttpd configs (or whaever you have there) accordingly.

Thank you.

I’m using the lighttpd mod_rewrite with the conditions:

url.rewrite-once = (
“(^/media/.*|^/skin/.*|^/js/.*)” => “$0”,
“.*\?(.*)” => “/index.php?$1”,
“” => “/index.php”
)

posted here in this forum. But it doesn’t work :(

Could try to put something like

echo 'test'; die;
in the top of index.php just to make sure it is running ?
Have you run any other sites with rewrite rules on your web-server ? There shouldn’t be any specific issue with Magento, you just have to make the rewriting happen.

Yes, I have another test-site for changing to lighty and that site works fine. I just have trouble with magento.
