I’ve enabled google sitemap in magento, but it doesn’t tell me where the sitemap.xml file is.

I tried http://www.mysite.com/sitemap.xml but it doesn’t work. Already set the error email to my email account, so since no error email received I assume it is working, but i can’t find the file.

Google sitemap is generated with cron. Please make sure you enabled it - check this wiki article for details.

Thanks for replying. I just sent an email to my hosting company. Hopefully they can help.

The following tools can also be used for the generation of sitemap.xml and urllist.txt:

Thanks… i’ll try the 3-party sitemap generator. I just realised that after enabling google sitemap in System > Configuration, we need to go to Catalog > Google Sitemap. But I’m still waiting for it to generate, perhaps the next cron job (my host told me cron is running successfull). Anyway i’ll give gsitecrawler a try! Thanks!

I had the same problem, everythings i well configured but the cron.php don’t want create any sitemap!

Hi Pukos, still no luck on my end. But I’ve found an easy sitemap generator to use http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/ and do up a robots.txt file by searching through the forums here. I’ve done up my sitemap this way.

I found many topics to manually create the sitemap but i would like to automatize the process…

Also i’m scared about some cron.php issue. The cron.php manage many functions (sitemap, currency, discount, newsletter and some others) so i would like to be sure that everythings is working!

Okay here is what I found to work:

#1
admin> configuration>google sitmap
Then generated settings > enabled

Catalogue>googlesitemap>add site map
Then File name: sitemap.xml
path:sitemap
storeview: English

The most important part which most people forget:

To generate sitemap with id 1:
Point your browser to http://www.yourshop.com/admin/sitemap/generate/sitemap_id/1

where id is the id number you’ve gotten when you added the site map in step #2

Thanks.  Too bad I had to change my ‘/’ path to 777 permission in order to create the sitemap.xml file.

why not just change your sitemap path in the admin?
set it to like /sitemaps/, create the sitemaps folder, and you can just have that folder to 777.

but i do not recommend you have anything to 777.

you might want to consider suExec/suPHP, that way you can have your magento work without 777.

Step # 3 generated a google sitemap ... now to see if the cron script updates it,
Is it documented anywhere that we have to visit that url?  I thought I read through the documentation thoroughly.

Same for me, no problem to manually create or update the sitemap, but when i try to do it with cron, I have no error message but my sitemap.xml is not updated.

Here is my cron command :

/usr/bin/php -f /var/www/my_magento_folder/cron.php

Do I have to modify something in cron.php ?

I ‘ve set up many other cron job on my server with no problem, any idea ? Did it works for you now ?
