I uploaded php5-cgi to /cgi-bin/, set the permissions to 755 and then added the following to .htaccess:
Action php5-cgi /cgi-bin/php5-cgi
AddHandler php5-cgi .php
It’s throwing up error code 500, sorry to be a pain but I’ve no idea why, and any help would be great, thanks.

I’m with IXWebHosting if that’s any help.

Hi BlizeH,
Wasn’t sure about what is your problem, I have no problem installed into my windows machine.
Here’s my specification installing Magento into my computer:
* Operating System: Windows XP Professional (SP2)
* PHP version 5.2.4
* Mysql version 5.0.45
* PhpMyAdmin version 2.6.2-pl1
Here are some of the common problems you will encounter when you tried to installed Magento into Windows machine.
Problem 1: The requested URL /install/ was not found on this server.
Problem 2: 500 internal server error
Problem 3: PHP Extension “mcrypt” must be loaded
Problem 4: PHP Extension “curl” must be loaded
I had compiled a list of fixes to enable it to work in windows machine, maybe could help. You read here. http://www.kenngoh.com/2007/11/04/ecommerce-with-magento/

Many thanks for the reply Kenn, and thanks for posting the great blog entry, I’m actually using Linux hosting though so I’m not sure if it applies in this case.
Thanks again

Hi blizeH,
Could you check the knowledge base article at http://www.magentocommerce.com/knowledge-base/entry/installing-magento-on-a-php4-server to make sure you have correct php5-cgi setup ? Could you also check apache error log and post here what does is say when you try to go to your site ?
Thank you.

Many thanks for the reply, just re-uploaded it to http://76.163.221.87/cgi-bin/php5-cgi and still getting the same problem unfortunately :(
Just to confirm, is this the code I need in .htaccess?
Action php5-cgi /cgi-bin/php5-cgi
AddHandler php5-cgi .php
Edit: No point checking it yet actually, since I deleted the php5-cgi file and can’t re-upload it using Web Shell.
Random question, but is there any chance I could just pay someone to set this up for me please? I’d rather lose a bit of cash than I would lose countless hours trying to set-up incompatible software (I guess I should really just tell me friend that I can’;t be bothered ) - Cheers

That’s awesome, many thanks RoyRubin. Pretty sure I’ll go with Simple Helix of those, I’ll contact them now.

Just wanted to follow up to this thread because I had the same problem. You need to make sure that when you upload the PHP5 file that you upload it in binary mode. After I did this, it worked like a charm! Hopefully a quick fix for someone else...took me 4 hours to figure it out.
