Is Magento compatible with the various PayPal payment methods? If so, which ones?

Cheers to anyone who replies, grin

Right now Magento supports: PayPal Website Payment Pro, Express Checkout and PayFlowPro gateway.

We are working on PayPal Website Payment Standard and PayPal UK integration, both should be implemented by the end of the year.

How are funds captured when authorized as the order is placed using PayPal Pro? Are they captured when the order status is changed or does this need to occur inside Paypal.

In the current version of Magento, we have a configuration value for PayPal modules to either capture (sale) or authorize.

If the authorization method is selected the capturing needs to be done in your PayPal account.

We are working on integrating the capturing in the Magento admin, and hope to have this ready for the first stable release.

Thanks

yoav

Do we need an SSL certificate or can we just go through PayPal for credit card payments?

This is great news. I have 3 projects I’d like to do in Magento, and I was even able to convince them of table-based shipping, however I could not convince them to pay an extra fee for Paypal pro.

And yes, we are developing for Live. So far aside from the Postal issue (It just plain don’t work, and if it does, we can’t figure it out, maybe a screencast would help?) and Paypal, we are set to go and customers are drooling all over themselves about Magento.

Thanks,

tim.

@vectran - It is an option to setup up Magento in such a way that will allow to checkout using PayPal. Although it is not implemented at the time you can customize Magento to do that.

Thanks

Hello-

I am currently getting “unknown paypal API error: 0” when i try to place an order. This is with the sandbox flag off and with a live paypal pro account. I am just wondering if there is something that i need to do on the paypal account end.. as i understand that data is actually captured there. Could this have to do with the fact that i am accessing paypal from an https:// domain?

Any help would be greatly appreciated - i have run into a brick wall.

thanks!

https://www.paypal.com/en_US/html/SolutionsDirectory/sd_wp-pro-us.html

it’s is not listen as supporting. But it does work anyway?

...  Why use a less popular payment system such as payment pro? ...

Which one is less popular, and in what way?

Good to know
Thx

Hi, Just a short summary… on Paypal and paypal Pro.

Paypal Standard = FREE.
Used by 80-90% of online traders (Businesses too)
No Monthly Payments. If theres no activity theres no charge. Most ebayers pay and recieve payments this way.

Payment Pro. = (UK 20GBP) per month
Credit checks to start up Loads of great stuff like virtual terminals… but really Paypal is not the best system to completely rely on . It has a habit of rejecting orders even when theyre genuine therein your paying monthly for a service that isnt consistant.

Most good traders have a combination of processors.
eg Me… I have Paypal (Business account)standard (deal with most customers )
2Checkout for the difficult order from Asia and South America
Nochex (UK System) for local customers with purchases under 100GBP

ALL other cart systems, Zen, Osc, Virtuemart and many many others have the free payments systems as standard. It is then upto us traders to upgrade when we fell brave enough (make enough cash).

So there you have it. Free systems are standard. If you search through the forum for Paypal Standard you will come across Magento Staff answering this question. But the dates are all over the place.

Payment pro is paypal but its a a full blown system that u will pay through the nose for .
Standard is the way without question. less complicated to intergrate than paymernt pro. Just read the number of people in this forum struggling to get it to work!

Just another curiosity, I contacted Paypal about Paypal Express… They say that Paypal Express is made available for paypal Standard Userd especially their valued Standard Business users.. They are curious to know why its only available via Paypal pro on Magento. Feels as if Free payment systems are really not taken seriously. Off the record the paypal software engineer stated that Express is still a bit buggy and standard is really a tried and tested system for all.

I look forward to Magento Team explaining the ethos behind the payment systems employed

Im still looking forward to Magentos release but Ive learnt , all that glitters aint gold.

Cheers

Thx
