Hello.

I have set all the file magento/var/.htaccess, the directories magento/app/etc, magento/var, and all the directories under magento/media are writable by the web server but setting them as 777
But when i go through the installer i get the following error.

Path “/home/justusbc/domains/nailsnails.co.uk/public_html/media/catalog/categorys/h” must be writable

If i then set that file to 777 another one is listed when i retry.

Is there something i am doing wrong?

Thanks for your help

Rob

Effectively for chmod (unix permissions) 777 is same as 0777.

Historically permission modes are represented in octal base.
Programming languages including PHP recognize octal numbers by finding prefixed 0.
To make sure I don’t make mistakes i’m used to explicitly prefix 0 to all octal numbers, even when not necessary.

I wasn’t aware that you are using a gui software, but i think you should be able to put either.
