I wonder if Magento can/should be used strictly for hard products, where shipping and tax is charged, or is Magento ready out-of-the-box to handle soft products as well?

Were looking for a solution to sell hard product too, so I want an all-in-one solution to sell:

- Hard Products (books, media, etc)
- Event Registration and Invitation (sign-up process)
- Downloadable digital products (software, training materials)

Is Magento up for the task?

Please Advise,

- Yes.

yes with Magento 1.1 - virtual products

- Downloadable digital products (software, training materials)

- Downloadable products will not be available with 1.1 but probably in a release after that.

OK, I’ll give it a whirl then!  Thanks.

Noticing that’s the beta.
How close to stable release?

(age-old question)

There is a product called Freeway that does Physical Products and sells Events and Downloads.  It is not as nice as Magento though.  Magento was a breath of fresh air when I set it up and it looks like the developers are efficient at including user suggestions in a clean way.  For now Freeway would do what you want right out of the gate.  I would probably wait for the functionality in Magento though as a long term solution.

Has an “Event Registration” extension or core functionality hit the market for Magento yet?  Could “downloadable products” or the “gift certificate” extension be used as printable PDF registration tickets as proof of registration?

It would be nice to support one platform instead of learning another one JUST for the sake of a once-a-year event registration.

I’m reviving this thread.

We are looking for event registration functionality also. And REALLY want to incorporate it into our Magento system. Does anyone know if there is a event registration add on?

or does any one have any tips on setting up events using the core functionality. We will have a lot of various events, roughly 300, all over the country at different times.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Reloading this thread.

We are using stock Magento to facilitate online registration for events.  Have a lot of work to do to improve but we’ve processed more than 3000 orders.

Our checkout process includes getting people to put more registration information as needed by event organizers.  I want to be able to get information already inputted before into those forms.  Is there a way to do this without custom code?

Also I want one user to be able to register for other people.  I imagine this can be done by giving the registration fee as a gift for other users.  Can you propose a workflow for this?
