The iPhone theme seems to work well - thank you.

Is there any way for the Magento software to detect an iPhone/phone browser and switch to an iPhone store and theme?

In the next update, Magento will auto create a subdomain ‘iphone’ for you, so it will be ‘iphone.yourdomain.com’

Sorry! I can’t help.

The very idea of company using ‘iphone.domain.com’ pisses me off

You are joking? There should be a way that Magento detects the user-agent. If iPhone use iPhone theme, otherwise use default theme.

OK. This is the solution. Go to System -> configuration -> design.

Under Theme add a “new exception” for default. Type iPhone|iPod into the Matched expression and set value to iphone.

Refer to the attached image.

Sorry about the early confusion. I completed misunderstood the mean of ‘package’.

Regards

@warren, chatlumo

I tested it with my friend’s iphone, and it worked perfectly. Make sure you got the latest iphone theme 1.1.1 and magento 1.1.2 installed. If you go to system -> design -> add a new design, then choose iphone in the customize design drop down list, will this work? If you can see the iphone theme with normal browser, means that the iphone theme installed correctly.

And how do you customize the menu?

I customized the category menu as well. I changed the horizontal menu to vertical menu according to the tutorial in the forum. All the codes I modified are templates and layouts located in app / design / frontend / default / default. If you touch any codes outside this folder and the skin / frontend / default / default folder, it may cause problem.

Also, try add new exceptions for Templates Skin (Images / CSS) Layout. This tells magento to use templates, skins and layouts in iphone theme.

By the way, try iPhone instead of iPhone|iPod in the Matched expression field. And the symbol between iPhone and iPod is not ‘L’. It is the pipe (vertical bar) symbol.

This is the only explanation I’ve seen of how to use those exceptions fields. (and it’s not a very complete explanation)

What is it matching to?
And is it defining the base or the override?
