Magento

The store I’m working on needs to allow me to run specific code based on what items were purchased.. for instance, one item may need me to make a curl connection to another site, while a different one may require me to send out an email, then grab the response and continue on with the process.

This is kindof a bad description, but is there any existing module/feature that accomodates this, or will I have to start from scratch? I’m relatively new to Magento and wasn’t sure what I would search for.
