This site has been re-built using a mixture of Magento and ModX. It is a UK-based website that primarily sells fine spirits and champagnes as well as giving information about cocktails, info about bars in London and New York, as well as offering a few very unique products… Looking forward to a few of the useful extras due in Magento 1.1 release which will add some great extras. Hope you like it!
The “magazine” elements of the site are run using ModX mainly for the Ditto functionality - the “magazine” sections are the Cocktails section and Bar Guide sections of the site.
In a few months we will hopefully integrate the Magento API into the ModX sections to allow for direct purchasing within magazine pages.
I can say that after quite a few years of using shopping cart software that, although Magento has the steepest learning curve, it really does offer developers and designers alike the most freedom and flexibility out of all of the competition. It’s all got me into using Zend Framework…
A big well done and thanks to all at Varien for a great product.
Just one note: The menues are not working properly - for example I am not able to select from the “Country of Origin”, as it closes automatically before I am able to move the cursor down to the end of the list.
Very elegant and classy. Perfect for this kind of site.
In terms of usability, the site’s a bit difficult to navigate. I clicked on the Cognac section and noticed it said 11 items, but I couldn’t find any items. It took me a couple seconds to realize that those images layed out horizontally were the items I could click on.
Seeing as Cognac is my favorite type of liquor, I was able to tell what the bottles were for, but it would be nice to have a simpler way of displaying the items and know what I was looking at without hovering over each image individually.
The search bar blends in a little too much for my tastes, especially considering it’s one of the most used features on an ecommerce site.
End of the day, nice looking site, but I still think spending some money on usability testing would help things out tremendously.
