Just installed 13160 and it seems a lot slower than 12840 installed on the same box. Both are using the same php5-cgi is this anyone else has found? is there a workaround?

0.6.13160 has explicit user control over cache.
Please take a look in Admin / System / Cache Management.
Disable cache when you are customizing templates, XMLs, or configuration files directly.

I have just installed the demo version of both, have not changed any config files.

Is using the php5-cgi slower than using native php5.2+ ?

Using CGI is definitely slower than running it as apache mod. Also, you can not run bytecode cache, such as APC.

Did you try enabling cache in above mentioned admin page?

Ok thanks,

I have enabled cache and this is much better.

To run php5.2+ directly out of the box which os would you recommend using?
