I have Godaddy’s Deluxe hosting (shared) and couldn’t install Magento on it. I’ve read almost all the postings here and still running into walls. If anybody has managed to install Magento on Godaddy’s shared hosts, please tell me how. Thanks.

ps: i have also tried the CGI method, but it’s not working. I’m still getting a error 500

maybe you need to edit your HTACCESS files like us with OVH and 1&1;providers ...

if you’re installing Magento under is directory like http://www.yourdomain.com/magento

just try with my HTAccess configuration :

(try without SetEnv PHP_VER 5 before and if don’t work try with)

SetEnv PHP_VER 5
#php_flag magic_quotes_gpc off
#php_flag short_open_tag on

DirectoryIndex index.php

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond $1 !^(index\.php|media|skin|js|robots\.txt)
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /magento/index.php/$1 [L]

RewriteEngine on

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/media/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/skin/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/js/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-l

RewriteRule .* index.php
ReWriteBase /

if you attempt to install Magento directly without /magento directory, i needed to use this HTACCESS either this first one i gave you :

(like first, try before without SetENV PHP_VER 5 ...)

SetEnv PHP_VER 5

DirectoryIndex index.php

RewriteEngine on

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/media/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/skin/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/js/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-l

RewriteRule .* index.php
ReWriteBase /

Don’t forget to change CHMOD 777 on the Directories and the file :

/APP/ETC
/VAR
/MEDIA
/VAR/.htaccess (file)

On OVH the First HTACCESS (in the /Magento directory) need to be CHMOD 644 not 664 or 777 maybe it’s same on Go Daddy

Hope this work for you !

Kind Regards,

Julien
