Hi,
As you may have guessed my name is Josh,
and i take all compliments personally
I have been utilizing PHP/MySQL/CSS for 5 years now with a strong focus on templating/skinning/network administration.
I enjoy sitting at our Wisconsin Web Dev firm with a hot cup of coffee starring aimlessly at the beauty of Magento.
Take this
compliment
to heart,
great job so far guys!
I am looking forward to utlizing, and contributingdown the line.

I have been playing around with Magento for a couple of months now (well, there has been breaks in between) and since my first encounter I was really impressed. This is what I dreamed of years. I got to the Varien Web site because I was looking into the Zend Framework and how to utilize it, and Varien was presented as a case study. Seems like Varien also have designed the Zend Framework Web site.
Anyway, I am looking forward to a release so production can get rolling—aren’t we all?

We have a really cool product called iPaper that is a killer in enhancing online PDFs. Take a look. An iPaper can be linked directly to a Web shop. Combine iPaper with Magento and you have a perfect solution for an online commerce presence.

I just discovered Magento in the last couple of days, and I’ve been talking to my computer screen going “Oh yeah!”, and laughing (both in sheer delight at the elegant architecture, and at myself for the comical magnitude of my geeky relish in good design :-) ) This is just what I’ve been looking for, and I’m full of ideas about what I could do with it.
I appreciate the well-designed community/contribution environment too.
Congratulations to all concerned - I take my hat off to you :-)
How do all,
I’m Matt and I found Magento from a collegue of mine after mentioning to him that I was looking for a good ecommerce package. I was originally thinking of using Zen Cart but he recommended Magento. So I had a play around with teh demo version and decided it was jsut what I wanted
I work as a developer for a directory company based in the UK (www.ufindus.com / www.customerstreet.com) and develop a few websites on the side.
Well not sure what else I can put so take care all and keep up the great work
Matt.
Wow, this is a fun little community - the introductions make me laugh.
I’m Sherrie and I work as a Multimedia Graphic Designer at a local promotional company.
I have been looking at using osCommerce for one of several ecommerce projects currently in the works. Definitely didn’t like how much customization you had to go through just to get basic “needs” accomplished.
Magento seems great! My only concern is it runs a little slow on our shared hosting - hopefully that gets improved.
Hello I’m Christopher, and would just like to state that Magento looks absolutely amazing! I’ve had the privilege to install and navigate and what can I say? After using Joomla/Virtuemart, OSCommerce, ZenCart, CubeCart, and other “e-commerce solutions” this product looks and feels simply amazing Keep up the outstanding work, and thank you so much for your dedication to quality, aesthetics, and simplicity!
Hi all, I’m Jeff. I’m a graphic designer from Illinois. I started out solely has a graphics/html guy. Learned ASP by necessity at my first job out of college (BFA from Northern Illinois University). Moved over to PHP a few years ago. Now I do web design, graphic design for print media, a bit of video, and all the PHP/MySQL dev for the company where I work. I used osCommerce for a project there, and while it seems like it’ll work, I didn’t care for it.
A former coworker/current buddy of mine was saying he was going to try Magento when he needs an ecommerce platform. I am building my freelance clientele and have two e-com sites to develop, and here I am. I know we’re only in version .8, but it’s so much more polished than osCommerce. I look forward to being happy with it when we get to production version. Can’t wait!
I dont understand PHP… so what!
But i look foward to work, design and seo with that really big promising great shopsystem!
Perhaps you guys have saved us working with oscommerce in future. Thanky You!!
... and my english is bad. i do not take this personally.
Hi,
I’m Mark, otherwise known here now as MKBRKB. I’d like to say ‘Thank You!!’ to the people involved with this project. I hope my experiences will benefit the community.
My first computer was a Commodore 64 I got for christmas when I was 12 along with the ‘Programmers Reference Manual’ ... It is here at my office (no, I’m not using it, but maybe I should find a use? yeah sure i will. I’d give you the rest of the timeline but I think you get the picture.
I try to stay on the ‘cutting edge’ of things (web dev, 3d animation, audio/video production, nano-solar tech, etc...) and I like what is happening here. In my ‘quest’ I spent time with several options of js and php frameworks. I have to mention CodeIgniter ... for a intermediate level php person, it rocks. I was sold on the extjs(jqurery based is best?) + codeigniter idea and still not enough time to meet the deadline. I wish this had been built on that framework, but it is all very similar (the templating is very foreign so far, but if i know the data arrays passed, i’ll hack it to make it work for monday ). What framework is this again (I haven’t seen the structure before ?!? The app is sluggish with all the pieces that comprise it, but as it comes together the responsiveness will improve, I’m sure.
The thing is, I have been on a hurried quest for the best frameworks (php and javascript) so that I might have a chance at finishing a very important project. The deadline for the web app completion has already passed (for phase 1 of 3), but the deadline for the client is in a few days. Sooo they are still counting on me to pull it all together. I realize this is still in beta, but I only need to make a few changes and 2 or 3 external ‘CRUDs’ to get this to exactly what they want. phase 2 and most of 3 are getting done at the same time now that I have found this....... I will be contributing to Magneto with donating $$$ as well as following through with documenting the problems + solutions. Someone, Everyone.. let me know that you’ve a moment to spare.
Thanks,
Mark
The missing pieces of my puzzle:
Company centric ordering
Sales People access to their region’s data - ‘mostly read only’...except for placing orders
My idea is to use the website/store/store-view model and think website/sales-region/store (would it work? I’m sure I will try it before anyone answers, but just in case) I need the sales people to have access to their regions sales (20-35 salesmen )
Salesmen = Store
Salesmen’s Customers = Customers within groups with pricing levels (groups/tiers)
Company centric ordering - online orders, no prob… the contact logs in and orders. Call in orders - no way to search by company since it isn’t in the customer displayed table and the auto-complete box at the top doesn’t search this field. I am sure that it would be semi-simple, but if I start changing much of the code , upgrading to the final version will be horrendous. A simple point in the right direction is usually all that I will ask. I’ll ask this in the proper forum topic, but I have to ask now: How can I search customers by company It is critical and has to be there on Monday.. 24 hrs from now (9am)
I’m sorry to introduce myself and my problems at the same time. At least you know a little about what I need to accomplish now.
i’ve very little experience in forums, so please be patient and correct my etiquette gently.
I randomly stumbled on Magento this afternoon at work and straight away i was excited at what i saw before me.
I can not wait to delve into the code and see what i can do with what you have on offer here, fingers crossed this will be the missing element to alot of my own personal projects
Thanks and i look forward to becoming an active member of the community
Just found out about Magento about a week or two ago, and we really look forward to working with it. Open Source is the future, and we are down for becoming a Partner in the future.
Hola, I’m Matt. Just got Magento up and running on account of we’re using it for a client. Have been intrigued by Zend since it was a wee little embryo, and currently kick around structural ideas (esp. ReST stuff) with my brother, who is contributing to ZF core.
I want very badly for ZF to become as good as rails, and for people to use it to build great stuff so that osCommerce can die peacefully.
I am Katie, a designer based in New Zealand, and I’m really excited about this project! I think I will be using Magento for all e-commerce projects I do from now on, and can’t wait to start using it!
Recently was introduced to Magento by a client. Will try to get the latest copy to see what it can truly offer. From reading the information on the site it seems like a very comprehensive and well-thought out application. A bit excited to try it :-)
