I am working on Magento. Before this I have worked on OS Commerce and many more MVC based framework.
Till this time I am not sure how Magento is better than OS Commerce. If anyone knows then please let me know else I will add my comments on this later on when I come to know the details.
A new client hates his old website with custom shopping cart. Since he only has one product, I thought a Magento implementation would work well for everyone. He gets a well-rounded, leading-edge e-commerce site and I get to learn Magento.
I’m Sue (or Sooz, or Susi) from Australia. I live in beautiful Byron Bay; before that in Sydney. Have also lived in Israel way back in the 1970s. (Wonder if I’m the oldest here?)
Been in IT since 1975, mostly as an accounting software consultant and some assembler and cobol programming in the really, really old days. PHP is mostly beyond me.
Have some experience with installing and admin, including altering templates and looking through code for hell knows what , on Mambo, Joomla, OSC and a few other awful shopping carts. I’ve done lots of things in the industry - too many to list.
Am looking for a cart that does inventory by attributes. There are a few but Magento appeals the most.
I am Martin currently living in Nairobi. I have several online shops and am looking to create more. I like the idea that things can always be improved so fully support Magento in it’s efforts.
I also create (by outsourcing) sites for clients. Kenya is very ‘up and coming’ wrt the internet. There are many people here who are realising the potential. It is still very much a ‘cash’ kind of place. If I tell someone about a new website they always want to know my phone number or or be able to arrange a meeting and it is a revelation to them that they can use email to communicate. It’s a mindset thing.
I am also the owner of maglance.com, a free lancer site for Magento. I created this for several reasons, including the promotion of Magento, but mostly to make a buck at some point in the future, hey, shoot me
I have found so far that there are more people wanting Magento work than there are available to do it. A typical converstaion will go
‘Hi, I need a template/coding’
‘sure, I have done many templates/coding’
‘can I see a sample of your Magento templates/coding’
‘ah, i haven’t done any MAGENTO templates/coding yet’
‘oh, bye’
I hope that as Magento rises through the mire of shopping carts more freelance programmers will become familiar with it.
I want to put together a Kiswahili translation for Magento....
Hey all, I am Neal from Melbourne, Australia, and I am trying to set up an online bookstore for a non-profit association to help raise funds. I am muddling through the installation
Glad to see there are some Aussie extensions in the system - thanks guys!
I’m Frederik from Leuven, Belgium. I’m a self educated user experience designer, with a passion for usability & user centered design, information architecture, web standards & semantics, information & interaction design & e-marketing.
I’ve already played a bit with Magento, & so far I’m really liking it.
I hope I can contribute to this community & Magento with some usability improvements, interaction designs, etc ...
Hello everybody… My names Josh and i’m a Magentoholic. I live in Michigan and am attending the University of Michigan currently for computer science. I’ve been through about 5 languages and while not liking PHP syntactically as much as others. I’ve settled on PHP for the time being and have been looking to become active in an open source project.
I really like Magento and cannot wait for future updates and the community atmosphere while maybe not perfect, it is ten folds better than a lot of other open source communities. I credit that to the great product Varien has put forth and the hard to ignore sense that something huge is being born here.
Hi, my name is Ciaran, a web developer from Ireland. I’ve been following the progress of Magento for sometime now as I’ve continually been disapointed with the quality of other cart systems, both paid and open-source alike. The future for this application looks promising and even with my brief interaction to date with it, I am pretty confident its the solution that many of us have been waiting for.
I’ve been waiting for a suitable ecommerce project to come along which would justify me delving into Magento indepth, and that has come around now thankfully. I’ve just installed the newest release, fired up dreamweaver, rolled up my sleeves and bookmarked the various learning resources on this site to get started. I look forward to getting stuck in, and will no doubt be asking (and hopefully eventually answering) lots of questions, so excuse my seeming sillyness whilst I get to grips with everything!
I’ve been involved in e-commerce for the past 9 years. Recently i’ve heard a lot about magento. It appears to tick many of the boxes.
I’ve not yet downloaded it as i hear v 1.1 is about to roll out.
For me a cart that is SEO friendly is imperative, so i look forward to using Magento.
I am a complete noob in terms of os carts so i hope to learn a lot from everyone and eventually be able to give something back.
Looking forward to getting my Magento site up. I have no idea what im doing, so should be fun.. I’m sure you will see my name all over the place in the “how do I” section.. haha
I’m David from London. I found this forum really healthy and it’s worthy to be a part of this community. I’m looking forward to a great support from you people.
Good Work with magento.....Looks like a really good system with a great future.
I am looking to use magento for all my ecommerce projects.
but looking around the forum seem like it lacks good documentation for debugging.
Also Communicating with the database is a pain so I am really looking forward to that API release it should open new doors.
Keep up the good work.
