Imported products refuse to attach to sub categories

This is really strange. I imported my categories and products which seemed to work fine but then I noticed categories which had products in them on my osc site now do not.

I don’t want a sub site so I used the drag and drop to move my categories up to my primary default site which worked fine.

When I go and edit a product and try to attach it to the category it should be in, check box, save - it doesn’t show up in the category.

Selecting top level categories does work, it’s just the sub categories which do not.

I tried creating a new product and attaching to same sub category existing products has problems with - it worked fine.

It just seems to be a problem with re-attaching existing products back to existing sub categories.

example:

I have an imported product - SD Flash memory which was attached to “Computers / Components”
After import the product shows up in product list but is no longer attached to sub category “Components”.
I can attach it to “Computers” top level category just fine but when I check the box to attach it only to “Components” it just doesn’t work.
If I check both “Computers” and “Components” it only shows up in “Computers”.
If I check only “Components” it saves fine but does not show up.

I tested creating a new product and attached it to “Components” - this worked fine.

Note - none of my product pictures remained attached to products despite all being uploaded to media/import, both folders chown -R web server owner (same as all other Magento folders and files) and permissions set to 777.

i have the exact same problem. We have about 2000 products, so it’s a true pain to manually change all of those products to top level and the front-end user experience without sub-level categories would be a navigation nightmare

I’m eager to see a reply to this

any luck on the images yet? I succesfully imported the OScommerce shop, all products are however default out of stock. Is there a way to change the option for all the products in one move ?
I uploaded the images to media/import, ) and permissions set to 777, no image appears ....

Anyone with a little tip ?

Thx !
