is this right - do i just essentially delete all code in wishlist.xml and then i dont have it anywhere?

is this the same process for other links such as my cart login etc ie removing all code in the appropriate xml pages that reference toplinks?

tell me its as easy as that .. please.

Be careful what you delete or you could cause your site to crash ...

It’s almost that easy, but not quite.  You need to pull out the links themselves, not the layout pages behind them.  Do a code search for top.links and then rename the ones you don’t want to a different non-existent class.  I think I used gr.links instead.  That way they will not show up in your top links.  You’ll also have to remove wishlist functionality from your catalog pages and your customer account pages.

You will need to change them in these files: layout/checkout.xml, layout/customer.xml, layout/wishlist.xml

Thanks Black Cat! It’s folks like you taking the time to respond to simple questions that allow those new to the Magento community (like myself) to get our heads around Magento.

For those who might need even more specific instructions on how to disable wishlist in Magento ver 1.0, log into the administration back end, then:

1.Follow this menu path: System>Configuration>[then in the left sidebar under the heading ‘Customers’] Wishlist

2. Making sure the General Options panel is expanded, select ‘No’ from the drop down menu next to the text label ‘Enabled’.

3.Click the ‘Save Config’ button.

Cheers!

B

Sometimes I forget to check the obvious places - sorry to anyone who tried to follow my schizophrenic deletion method first. smile

I looked first under system->configuration->advanced to disable wishlist. I think it should be there is is done like most of the other poll and all the other functionalities.

I never thought of the system->configuration->wishlist undtil now… But great to be informed, thanks black cat.

I realize this is an old thread but I have been trying unsuccessfully to remove the “My Wishlist” from the top links area. I tried commenting out the following:

frontend/default/theme_01/layout/wishlist.xml (theme_01 is my new theme)

<default>
<!--
        <
reference name="top.links">
            <
block type="wishlist/links" name="wishlist_link">
                <
action method="addWishlistLink"></action>
            </
block>
        </
reference>
-->

But when I refresh the home page the “My Wishlist” link is still there. I don’t want to lose the wishlist functionality, I just want it removed from the top links area.

What am I doing wrong?

Did you clear your cache? Under System > Cache Management >

Make sure is disabled when making changes to the frontend…

Turn it back on when your site is ready....

Here is a simple way to remove the wishlist if you are using Magento 1.5 or higher.

Login to the backend of your magento store and go to system, configuration

Then scroll down to Customers, Wishlist

And switch enabled from yes to no.

This is what I did to remove the wishlist from the store.

Can anyone help with removing the wishlist from the home page only?

Or possibly only displaying it when logged in.

Many Thanks

Eze

I have it set to ‘No’, but the wishlist links still show up.

Any ideas?

Is there an easy way to takeout the wishlist links with local.xml?

Edit: I figured it out. I also had to go to System ->

Configuration ->Advanced->Advanced and set disable â€œMage_Whishlist”

I’m still curious if there’s a way to hid the wishlists per handle via local.xml

Thanks!
