Overall here are the steps i take to create the product and attributes and regardless it will always result in the end problem. It hangs on the “please wait” screen and never goes anywhere. EVER!!! its actually still going over here on my local PC.. going on close to 4 hours of please waiting. If i delete the configurable product and readd it and then reassiocate all of these attribute to it.. it works fine until i get to the same number or so (not assiocated) and then im back to square one. I really want to say its some type of memory settings or limit thats being placed on either ajax/javascript (doubtful) or my personal belief if that its the mysql server its self can’t finish executing the query..too much data in the table or the query is timing out.. or something.. and then it just hangs.. ajax waiting for a response back from the DB saying ive completed the job and it never gets it? any ideas? comments? solutions? i can replicate this problem over and over and over and over again.. so clearly its a bug / configuration issue.

1. click “catalog” and then top right corner click “add product”

2. then select from the dropdowns attribute Set “Legacy Plaques” and product type “configurable product” and click continue

3. then select all 4 checkboxes

4. fill out required fields with any data.....

5. then click “associated products” at the very bottom of the menu bar

(NOW FROM HERE ON CAN BE DONE TO REPLICATE THE HANG.. wether you are just entering a new product following the above instructions or if you “edit” one of the existing “configurable” products you will still beable to replicate the hang following the below)

(NOTE: this is making the assumption there are already exisitng product attribute (individual products that it creates from attribute dropdowns in admin..because when your actually creating the attributes the first time it will crash after adding so many and then you have to delete the configurable product (it will error and not load on the magento user end.. so thats why you delete it) and then i recreate it and reassiocate it as talked about below and then again i get this “please wait” problem.

6. scroll to bottom of the window and there is a “search button and a reset button” and a bar right below it.. (far left corner there is a checkbox and below it a dropdown box. If you select the dropdown box and then select “no” and then click the search you will see all the “non assiocated attributes / single products that i want to assiocate with this configurable product (hense making the 4 dropdown boxes seen here: http://www.honorsplaques.com/magento/shop/legacy-framed-crown.html so if we select some of the lines (by clicking the checkbox on the far left for each product instance) and then click save in the top right (yellow transparent bar.. or even save and continue will do the trick). Now if you’ve just made a new product you will have no problem adding some of these to the product.. works just fine.. but if you spend the time and try to add them all.. you will eventually have it hang. If you just edit one of the “configurable” products that are already hung up and then try to add just one option to the product and it will also hang.. any of the ones already hung are like this and to replicate the same thing again… create the new product and just keep adding them to it until you have it freeze.

Definately not the same bug. Has nothing to do with this at all. I tried the recommended patches even thou i was already on the latest verision and the patches go backwards.. (older versions.) made no difference. I just sits at the “please wait” this make magento unusable and will be a complete failure for the client if i cant get this fixed. Im so disappointed with magento at this point and no help from anyone on the bug from magento either. I also have no other stores or store views or anything else besides the 1 store 1 language and 1 product im still trying to assiocated product options too.. which magento will not allow

I’m running into the same issue! Magento hangs on selecting associated products and often comes up with a browser alert:
“Stop running this script? A script on this page is causing IE to run slowly. If it contines to run. your computer may become unresponsive.”

Anyone?

Thanks!

Update… This issue existed only in IE7. I was able to successfully update in FF3.

I run into this hanging problem after associating about 300 items to a configurable product.  Have the problem in FF3 and Safari, using Magento 1.1.6.  It doesnt let me associate any more because it hangs when hit save.  I have about 100 products remaining that need to be associated, that just wont take.  I can create more products in the “Quick Simple Product Creation” area, but when i hit save after creating them it hangs on the “please wait” window and they arent successfully associated...is there any way to do associate manually in the DB?  These are the last two configurable products, but most complex products in my store and i am nearly finished!!  Is there any way I can finish configuring this product?

Any help would be appreciated, this is entirely aggravating.

I believe that this is an performance issue - we have two magento store installations - one with an shard hosting provider (1und1 DE) and another one on a VS server (good performance). We face the same probleme on the shard hosting installation but not on the Vserver.... But it would be good to get a solution for that.

Hmmm..I am on a Crucial Split-Shared server...if this is a server performance issue..if there is anything i could ask them to temporarily increase on the server, what do you think it be?  the fact that it happens consistently right after 300 associated products seems indicative of exceeding some threshhold...i am so close to finishing this store..... maybe i should contact tech support, maybe they’ve heard this before… or...maybe they are listening.. Crucial...are you out there?

I have the same problem!  I have over 10 attribute sets and it just hangs on the “please wait” .  I hope that this problem can be fixed otherwise I can’t even use Magento after over 100 hours of work on this project of mine.

I contacted my host (Crucial) about this problem and asked them, rather vaguely, to raise some server parameters.  They got back to me and said they had done just that, and the problem miraculously disappeared.  Lenny2 was right.  Talk to your host!

No problem, Lenny, i did just that.  Here is their response:

We increased the default PHP memory limit from 64M to 128M. If PHP is running as an Apache module (mod_php, DSO) you can raise this by flagging it in the .htaccess file:

php_value memory_limit 128M

If PHP is running as a CGI binary or as suPHP, you can do this with a php.ini file:

memory_limit = 128M

And if PHP is running as FastCGI, unless local php.ini values are honored (which they usually aren’t), this has to be increased by the hosting company.

We used to run mod_php on early containers, but now run FastCGI, so all of the PHP flagging is controlled by us, though we set the php.ini file up so it works for Magento and can and do raise the values if necessary.

Dedicated Container clients typically run on mod_php since it’s the fastest way to have PHP running, but has the drawback of Magento creating files owned by nobody, which creates a lot of support issues that we otherwise don’t have to deal with anymore.

If you’d like to create a new wiki page in our Magento Group about this, please feel free. We created it to document common problems and how to fix them, and it certainly has benefited both our clients and the community:

http://www.magentocommerce.com/group/view/227/crucial-web-hosting

i hope this helps

I don ‘t even have PRODUCTS! Just categories, and it’s hanging in the admin panel.. I thought it would be fixed by 1.1.8 ...

I’ll just wait till 2.0

Don’t use Siteground, they will rip you off..
Charged me over twice their Current price and won’t refund me.
SiteGround = Crippled Magento ( Cannot export products! )
Cannot delete more than 30 products at a time!
No phone support, Nice Cpanel, but I prefer if my host doesn’t steal from me.
