Ha, *ship* LOL . Sorry that did make me laugh though.

Good point on the thread though I’ll second this as 99% of the shipping methods are based for people in the US. Any UK specific ones?

The royal mail one is fantastic, but anything to give customers a bit of choice.

I too would be interested in shipping modules that work best for the UK.

Do the ones that come ‘out of the box’ with magento work for the UK?

Metapack.com provide a carrier management system integrated to all UK carriers - so with one system and one printer you can print off labels for all of them - and the best bit is that they already integrate with Magento, so your orders get imported and exported automatically and the order status is updated and tracking references added. smile

Hey guys

We have worked for a shipping label extension for Citylink. The way it works is:

a. You have to contact citylink and they will give you a software and printer to print labels. Software is called CItylink XTEND.
b. Our extension creates a citylink compatible text file and places it on the server everytime you create a shipment.
c. A third-party FTP automation software running on your local computer will automatically download the citylink compatible text file and place it on your local computer’s folder, say for eg: c:\xtend\files_in. The FTP automation software will also delete the downloaded text file from your web server.
d. The xtend citylink software is programmed to automatically pick files that comes into the c:\xtend\files_in and print off the label using the details in the text file and then delete the text file from the local folder.

This way, you simply create the shipment in Magento and your citylink label is directly printed off from your printer in 30 seconds! You don’t need to do anything else except create a shipment in the Magento’s admin panel.

Contact me if you are interested in this.

Cheers

Hi,

You probably want to take a look at Matrixrate which is a community extension and highly popular both in the UK and abroad.

Also take a look at webshopapps.com which is our commercial extension site. We are based in the UK, and specialise in shipping extensions, including ones with pre-populated Royal Mail rates. These 3 commercial extns might be of interest to UK market, contact me on 01702 477808 if you wish to discuss your requirements.

See our screencast on the Royal Mail Table Rate extension.

Whatabout UPS? You can get that working for the UK and you get pretty good service for delivering the deliverables non-crushed and overseas if you want it. It is all one-click once you have ironed out all of the gremlins that are inevitable with any integration effort. I hasn’t had to do a UPS integration in a while but I will gladly swapsie my UPS work for a Citylink integration…

I can recommend Karen’s webshopapps.com solutions - they are easy to configure and they are compatible with MetaPack.

We use table rates without tying them to a courier. We call it “First Class Post or Courier Service” - that’s what the punter sees. It gives us the flexibility to decide come shipping, who to use. If you offer a Royal Mail, ParcelForce and CityLink module, the customer gets to pick and you loose control.

it all of course depends on your situation.

Good call. In my experience, most consumers are only interested in the LEVEL of service (standard 3-5 day, premium, next day, saturday morning, etc) rather than whether it’s Royal Mail or CityLink. Setting up these as tablerates then, as you say, enables you to choose whatever suits you best (or let MetaPack decide for you wink ) Also, this means that if you change your courier you don’t have to change your front end.
