we want to change to magentocommerce with our shirt shop. but we need the function “attributes with images”. is this possible with with magento?

Yes,

save your images (e.g. /shop/skin/frontend/default/bluray/images/fsk/fsk6.gif)
create for example a drop-down attribute (e.g. “fsk").
Then set the options [for admin] to an abbreviation (e.g. “6") - this is easier if you want to import the attribute.
Set the option [for your store] to an html-tag (e.g. “6 Years <img src="/shop/skin/frontend/default/bluray/images/fsk/fsk6.gif"/>")

sorry mike222, but i didn’t understand anything of what u wrote, i thought sheilas asked for attributes with images, meaning that instead of using a dropdown menu to choose the color of a product he can click an image showing the color of the product, isn’t that right?

Mike, to visualize your attributes and show images on poduct list / product view pages and in the layered navigation block you can also use
our Visualize Your Attributes extension.

You can create neat looking pages as at the screen with the attribute images with help of the Improved Navigation extension also.

Any idea how to make this work on 1.6?

I can not get the html string to show on the front end with a drop down menu, I keep seeing:  <img src="/
