Merchant Account with Protx - Recommendations

There appears to be three levels of Protx access available. Two of the levels: VSP Form and VSP Server are where purchasers are redirected to Protx for card details entry. As there is no storing, processing or transmitting of card data PCI DSS compliance is apparently not necessary.

However, the third access level - VSP Direct - requires some level of PCI DSS compliance as card details are captured on the merchant’s site and transmitted to a Protx server for authorization. The specific requirements should be determined by the merchants acquiring bank/ institution.

At the time of writing there is a VSP Form extension and a VSP Direct module available through Magento Connect, but nothing for VSP Server.
The choice then appears to be between VSP Form, the basic level Protx service with no PCI DSS compliance requirements, or the integrated VSP Direct which does require PCI DSS compliance.

In Magento Connect manager click on Settings tab and change Preferred State to beta. Then you should be able to download extension.

However, the third access level - VSP Direct - requires some level of PCI DSS compliance as card details are captured on the merchant’s site and transmitted to a Protx server for authorization. The specific requirements should be determined by the merchants acquiring bank/ institution.

Cardholder data isn’t actually stored using Protx Direct Payment Module. It’s transmitted to Protx for processing and no cardholder data is stored, therefore SAQ validation type 4 applies.

Were credit card data to be stored in the database (Saved Credit Card module); SAQ validation type 5 would apply.

It’s imposible you get the same error if you set the Preferred State as “beta”.
When you turn it to “beta” you have to save changes before trying to download packages. Turn it to beta, save and after that try to download it.

we couldn’t change the preferred state for ages because of a permissions problem. (got it sorted now) - it sometimes appeared as if it had been changed.

just add “-beta” or “-alpha” to the end of the extension download key to download when set in any “preferred state”

Hi Ben,

For merchant accounts there is a helpful list here: http://protx.com/merchantaccounts.asp
It is probably best for your client to talk to some of these providers themselves, as what rate they are offered will depend on their unique situation.  (I suspect using their current banking provider is the most obvious choice, but it is always worth checking the competition).

I have a small business merchant using HSBC (with Protx), who they seem happy with.

Cheers

might be 3 years ago.. but it helped me with what I need.. thanks..
