Magento

My understanding is that I can login via SSH and use pear to get packages and upgrades without having to set all my file permissions to 777.

So, I tried to use pear to get the Modern Theme. I executed:

./pear install magento-core/Interface_Frontend_Default_Modern

Here’s what happens:

[root@host public_html]# ./pear install magento-core/Interface_Frontend_Default_Modern
Attempting to discover channel “magento-core"…
unknown channel “magento-core” in “magento-core/Interface_Frontend_Default_Modern”
invalid package name/package file “magento-core/Interface_Frontend_Default_Modern”
Cannot initialize ‘magento-core/Interface_Frontend_Default_Modern’, invalid or missing package file
Package “magento-core/Interface_Frontend_Default_Modern” is not valid
install failed

Any ideas? Thanks.

Hello,

You likely need to run the PEAR setup first.  Also, make certain you are in the Magento root directory when issuing the commands.

Then, you should be able to issue the command to install the modern theme.

As always - have a backup just in case.

I have been screwing with PEAR for most of the day.

I finally found out how to add a channel but I could NOT find the actual name of the channel.

The lack of documentation is very painful.

Then I could not get all the channels.

Since you cannot cross search forums, I can imagine the frustration of many others such as myself in trying to get PEAR working.

I refuse to run any installation as wide open 777 so I see PEAR as the only option at this time that is valid.

If I had been able to search the entire forum, I would have been done with this in 10 minutes instead of all day.
