Magento

I would like to test Magento with data before changing from my actual ecommerce for magento. I installed magento on my host and add a specific theme. It works perfectly.
Now i would like to add the data. I download the data from magento site, and see the message “Sample Data must be installed prior to the basic Magento Installation”.
Is it possible to install data after Magento installation ?
Is yes what is the way to do it. I do not have knowledge in mysql and database. After unzip I have a txt conaining a script : suppose i have to use it, but i don’t know how and where ?

According to what i have read you have to run the smaple_data.sql script, in your database before and also load the media folder in your sever before installing magento.

To run the sample_data.sql script, you have to use a database management tool like phpmyadmin, if using phpmyadmin, you will see on he top left corner an icon saying sql, click on it, and in the window that open, click on import, then browse to load the sample_data.sql and then click ok. make sure sure that you get the message saying that the sql query was executed successfully if not, do it again.

The problem is that I already install Magento before uploading the database.

To install sample data, you will have to run the sample data sql file (preferable on an empty DB) and then to re run the installation by using database with sample data

Hi All,

I am new to magento and I followed the directions on installing the sample data prior to executing the magento installer. No errors were found during installation but nothing works on the front end. Everything is returning a “404” item not found error. Have a look here -
