I installed a magento shop under http://sitename.com/magento.

I want it to be available to customers when they go to the plain URL of the site.

Do I need to somehow move magento from the subdirectory (http://sitename.com/magento) to the site’s webroot (/)?

thank yOU!

You need to delete it all and upload the magento package to the folder you want to be the root folder, htodcs in most cases. Then run install.php from there http://www.mystie.com/install.php make sure to change all permissons to 777 on all of magentos foders and subfolders, or it won’t work.  At least thats how it used to be when I first installed it months ago, that may have changed, dont’ know. But you cannot move it as it has its rewirtes anr urls based on the /magento folder you now have it installed in.

If somebody knows an easier way, great, I’d be curios to hear it myself. But as far as I know thats all you can do. I made the same mistake on my first install.  If you already have setup categories, and products, then all of the urls created will have the /magento in their path and will not work if you just move the whole thing.

Also if you have products you should probably export them, so you can import them back in, but again, they will have the wrong url so you will have to change that, removing /magento from the path, before importing them back..

I saw a thread similar to this a few months ago where you could move everything and then make changes in the admin side to point to the new location.

I’m trying to do just the opposite, move from the root into a store directory.

I found the thread - hey - you were the one to provide the answer to this too. Has this procedure changed? I know your answer was in February, before the official release. I’m hoping I won’t have to go through a complete re-install.
