Digital Downloads/Virtual Products Multiple Files

I am praying that the upcoming release, which includes digital download/virtual product support, will also include support for the product to be downloaded in multiple files....

I sell very large files, and every once in a while customers complain. My partners are on my back about going to ZenCart for the “multiple files” digital product support - and I am fending them off while I await the release of Magento with virtual product support.

So, will my customers be able to buy a digital product for which they will receive TWO different download links? (one product = two different files)

*Please say yes, please say yes*

If it’s not going to have this feature, then I do suggest it for the future.

All things considered, even if the implementation did not support multiple files out of the box, I couldn’t imagine it would be too difficult to extend it for cover that requirement. Anyway, rather than being emailed links, I’m imagining that the user will have a downloads section where their downloads will be enabled after payment is received, so if that’s the case it would be pretty promising right out of the box. Roy, Moshe or someone else on the development team would probably by able to shed more light on this if they come around.

I’m looking forward to the digital downloads myself, and I can see where multiple files would be useful. Even zipped, your files will still be pretty large I’m assuming, so it would be pointless to zip them.

wink

I also would LOVE to see digital downloads as an option. As we do some publishing, we want to start offering downloads of some of our less-used material and eliminate some stock.

I’m right on with Scott on this one. Rather than providing links the way you have suggested, maybe a section needs to be dedicated to have the download section with purchased software to appear.

In an ideal world, there would be a section in My Account for digital/virtual products that would allow them to conveniently download the files straight there. If we’re far off from that idea, perhaps in the “Recent Orders” section when a custom chooses to View Order, under the Product Name, there should be download links active there?

Another thing, there shouldn’t be any reason to limit files to simply 2. If a person were purchasing an entire archive, of say, commercial podcasts (let’s say, language training with each podcast being a specific lesson), rather than for the company to re-upload a compressed zip archive containing every podcast in it, he could simply choose to add existing files already on the server. This would make sense if the entire archive containing every podcast always the customer a savings discount had he purchased them all separately.

I suggested the email links, because that’s the way our current cart does it. But, it also will alow them to download from a user account panel. The “adding files to a .zip” is a good idea. My files are already .zips, but without splitting them up - they are large enough that some customers have trouble downloading them. So, adding 2 or even more files to a single product purchase is really something I need.. rather than selling each portion as a different product, which inconviences customers.

Well lets hope virtual downloads are included in this release…
As this is (or will be..) a core feature, custom development of this functionality does not seem appropriate at the moment.

I must say i am very impressed with Magento and will definitely consider converting several music stores when this option becomes available.
A nice feature (also mentioned by others) would be the aggragating of multiple virtual products into a single zip file. This way a customer purchasing a number of music tracks can download the complete order in a single file.

I’m selling digital products as well and I really hope this will come out soon. I’m using cubecart at the moment but the features of magento are a lot more of what i need for my shop.

Does anyone know of any plugins that can handle digital downloads until they are released?
