Hi,

Can not understand why categories wont show up in menu. What I did was that I deleted all categories and then added them again.
See screen shot how it looks
The products are in stock, are enabled and added to the category and set to display in Main Website.

Where did I go wrong??!

Are your categories enabled? I had the same issue and categories appeared when I did enable them.

I have the same issue. i add or alter a “inactive” category and it wont show up in the dropdown menu in the top of the site.
In my case the “inactive” category that i set to active is marked gray. And the newly created is black as it should be. But none of the categories shows up in the menu.
I turned off cache but it doesnt matter.. it wont show up.

Did you make sure to assign top level category to the Root Catalog?

How do I assign them ?
Seriously am I thinking of reinstall the whole shop. I am using the latest version and this with categories is making me....sick.
Maybe it has something to do with when using multiple storeviews?
By looking at the screenshot, does everything look ok?
Also I am wondering what “is anchor” should be on/off?

Cheers

A little annoyance.. Why isnt possible to reasign top level category when editing a category? I have to remove the category and add it again, and add all the products to the category again.

It’s not fun adding about 100 products to a category manually.. it takes frickin forever!..

Hmmm....think I got it!
Have to double check first if its correct or not.
I went to System -> Manage Stores -> Edit store (by clicking on Main Website Store) and then assign the root category.
Hope it works?!?!

Cheers!

Im having a similar problem, ive just done a clean install, added a category and a product inside that category, both are active and i have assigned the category as root category in the store, but on the homepage there is no top nav links to the category, i can find the product by searching for it though.

Try to remove all cached files, and then do a refresh in browser. If that does not help, get back and I shall try to help ya.

Cheers!

I had the same problem here. Was not a problem with Magento but my lack of understanding how to set it up. I will try and explain in detail how I got it to work to those having some difficulties setting it up.
Go to your Administration section/ Catalog/ Manage Categories. Click on “Add New” button.
Make a new catagory, name it what ever you want since this category name will not show, (this is your root category).
Now make another new category, this category will show. But where it asks you “Parent Category” in the drop down box choose the first category name (root category) that you made previously.

I have actually worked through each of the fixes listed here and none of my categories appear. I am using the Modern THeme so I dont know if something has to be done on the backend or what. I live the initial look of Mgento but it is definitely not user friendly like OS Commerce and Zen Cart is.
