I would like to know this also. This might provide a solution to the problem with size x height x width x colour = 10000000 simple products then with price variations.
They say it is coming with 1.1 which should be out soon. I would like to be able to do this with a bit of a twist.
We sell packs of widgets which can come in several different colors. We have a discount if you buy more than one pack of widgets. People often want to buy say 3 packs of widgets in three different colors. Is there, or will there be, an easy way to configure this so they don’t have to add one pack to the cart, then come back and add another of a different color, then come back and and a 3rd pack in a different color?
John, if you wanted to you could create a shopping cart based rule which would discount the items if they bought one of x, y and z. Pretty simple. They would have to add the products to the cart manually but at least they’d get the discount. Also, related products would be a quick way to remind them of their options.
Thanks, I can see that the discount won’t be a problem, but i’d like for there to be an easy way, on the product page, for them to choose as many different packs as they want in whatever colors and sizes they want, so they won’t have to keep adding one to the cart, then going back and doing the second, etc.
You know what, that’s just a group product. Quite easy and already in place.
I don’t know if group product is appropriate for this- it is just one widget that comes in 3 sizes and 8 colors. I don’t think i’d want to make each one of those a different product all showing on the same page, as I understand a group product to be. In my current shopping cart I have 3 different products- a one pack, a two pack, and a three pack, each with their own page. So on the pages, there are either 2, 4, or 6 drop down boxes to configure the size/color for 1 pack, 2 packs, or 3 packs. That gives you the ability to choose say two packs, each being a different color and or size, without have to add anything to the cart and come back.
Once you define Attributes, then you can add whichever ones you want to your Configurable Product. And when you make another Configurable product, you can use those attributes again.
I think Color comes as standard (just add colours) and then you have to make one for size and add all the different sizes.
I’ve defined maybe 20 colours and 5 sizes. Not all are used in every product. I just add what I need in Associated Products in the Configurable Product.
There are a few steps to this and I haven’t described everything, but you may be able to work it out just from what I’ve written.
