I had the same error. I fixed my problem. It was the sample data that was giving me trouble. I created a new folder called media and enabled the 777 and it worked fine. Hope this helps someone
Same problem in 1.0. Does anybody have a solution for this?
No errors
No SSL
Flash on
media is 777
I deleted media and made a new folder as 777, no luck
No errors, no progress bar.
No firebug activity
No JS errors
It’s just completely unresponsive.
@Mark,
What’s your php config. I found out my problem was because I was running Zend Platform and there were some configuration issues with that. Our server admin is working on that so I don’t know what the problem is. For the time being I’m running plain php and it’s working fine. Mine would upload to /media/tmp but not move into the catalog. So it was a little bit different.
I have the same problem with 1.0:
the buttons “upload image” and “browse image” are just unresponsive.
I have:
local xampp
No errors at front-/backend
No SSL
Flash on
media is fully accessible
No errors, no progress bar.
No JS errors
It’s just completely unresponsive.

Edit: Im already using Flash 9
(checked it at adobe over here)

Which version of flash. The upload utility is actually a “flex” app. So it might require flash 9. But yes, the image upload stuff is woefully lacking in error messages.
So, if you can download that and get it to work locally, then it’s probably not a flash version mismatch… I don’t know much about flash/flex/air or anything from Adobe.
The file upload is still broken when running Firefox on Ubuntu Linux. I just updated my Flash player to the latest version LNX 9.0.124.0 and still no luck, whether using http or https.
Same problem here. Uploading with OSX Firefox gives me the Upload HTTP Error, but with Inter Explorer it works just fine.
I updated flash player to the latest version, but no succes. I tried all possible solutions, but I can’t get it working.
we were having issues with this too, we changed to use the compiled php version supplied by magento and now image uploads work fine - i think in addition the permissions issues raised in this thread it could also be a php config issues on some hosts (not exactly sure what part of the php configuration at this time we are still testing that)
My problem is abit different with your, my problem is .. i browse, i upload .. it is okie .. but when i save ... the system send me to login page. Anybody know what wrong with it ?

that is exactly the issue we were having try moving to the compiled version of php as per my lat post above
It just blows my mind that the folks at Magento would release something and not test that such a basic feature like image uploading works. I just upgraded, and now am faced with this darn issue as well. I’m reverting back to the previous version - seems a lot easier than to figure out hacks to get around these VERY ANNOYING bugs.
You’re just not going to get wide adoption with these kinds of issues. I’ve wasted a whole day for nothing.
