I guess it’s a complicated procedure getting products to show up in the store… If anyone has any ideas on how to get this happening please let me know!
I suppose that you have also create a category and a product… if you are not able to see them in home page the reason is that you have not selected the store view
when you add feature you must remember that magento must to know WHERE
go to manage categories and take a look on the top to the left, from the drop down menu choose your store view, here you must add your category and your product in this category
index.php show the default store
I have created 2 category’s. Inside of each category I have 1 product. I can search for the products and they show up, but why dont the category’s show up as a link on the main page? When I go to manage categories, I do not see the drop down menu that will allow me to choose store view when I go to manage categories as you describe above. I do not think this is a bug with Magento and am 100% sure its something Im missing, but sounds similar to what Tom is describing above. Do you have any other suggestions on why nothing shows up on the front page?
Im on the latest and greatest (and I mean that sincerely, this really is a fantastic project). I have submitted a print screen, showing that there is no drop down. My install is a clean new install, with only the 2 category’s I mentioned, along with 2 products. Thanks for your help.
I have a website, a store name, and a store view (its the default). Im not sure how to check if the root catalog is assigned to the store view, so Im sure Im missing that. Where is that done?

Im sure its something basic we are missing. I went ahead and did a reinstall with the sample data, but honestly the only thing Im struggling with at this point is the links that show up when I install the sample data. If I understood how those were created so I could edit them, etc, I thinK i would be in good shape. Hoepfully we get to the bottom of it soon.
Hmmm I just don’t understand, I have the product enabled, I have the Inventory set to 100, I have ‘In Stock’ checked… I don’t think there is anything else more that can be done…
I had the same problem. I’m sure we are all doing something wrong. Mine looks like Howard’s picture, not like chiaraweb’s. But I found a solution that works, until we hear from someone about the proper way to do it. In Howard’s picture for instance, he has a category called Single Gas Monitors. I named that category ‘Root Category’. Then underneath that category I added the rest of them as normal. Root Category does not show up on the front end, but everything under it does.
I ‘drug’ my categories under ‘Root Catagory’ that already existed, and what do you know, I can see them!!!! Now, when I change the name of a sub catagory, that same name isnt represented on the home page. For example Electronics --> Cell Phone. If I change the cell phone catagory to Howards catagory, when I mouse over electronics it still says Cell Phone. I do have all caching disabled. Any thoughts on this? Either way, atleast I can start building my store. Thanks for everyones patience.

P.S. Happy Easter everyone!
Hi Howard, happy easter to you too
Yes, if you have only one store you have a default category, under that you must add your CATEGORIES.
If you add a sub-categories it will not show in home page, you can see it if you go over with your mouse.
If you add a category or subcategory, to see it you must add to it almost 1 items.
Categories empty are not showed!
I had exactly the same problem. Than I added products categories under “Default Category” and everything went fine.
Now I have tried to create my own website, store, view and category. Everything seems to be working but I can not see products on the site even if I use the search feature or direct access through each product URL.

Thank you for your comments,

Hello Tomas
I’ve seen your store ... do you mean that categories are empty? and products are not listed?
