2. I am migrating from ZenCart MySQL database in phpmyadmin.  What should I do to get the products in?  I saved a number of different file formates from phpmyadmin (sql, xml, csv, excel).  Where do I upload it, etc. and what should I change or modify about it?
3. What are some recommended modules or installs that are common?
4. What are some common things I should consider in setting up a site properly so I don’t run into issues later?
5. Images? both for products and site design/logos, etc.???
6. Supported payment gateways & shipping?

I am on a shared hosting plan with bluehost.com.  Did the auto installation from their panel.  I have about 2000 products to start, plus I’d like to add about 9500 more.

]]> 2008-05-15T13:29:39-08:00 Error 404 on new installation http://www.magentocommerce.com/boards/viewthread/8256/ http://www.magentocommerce.com/boards/viewthread/8256/#When:15:07:23Z I used simple scripts to install magento on a bluehost.com hosted website.  I used the “successful installation” links to access the admin section of magento and browsed around for a few moments, changed my password (saved successfully) then “added” a store name… (saved) and lost everything to an error 404 page.  Both Front and backend.  I searched the forums here and since there were others with the same issue, but no answers on why or what to do, I went ahead and reloaded it from scratch using simplescripts again.  It indicated that I was about to overwrite the directory and I confirmed that was ok.  It did not fix the problem.

I feel like I’m close, but this is happening.

I’m working with clean installs on two different 1and1.com shared account....so, I’ve reproduced the problem.

Could the paths to the modules have changed?

I’m guessing that there’s something that needs to be changed in the PEAR script. A path possbily?

BTW, if anyone is curious, the PEAR that I’ve run on other installs of this in the browser, as opposed to in SSH just simply die after a few processes. AND, it changes my .htaccess file back to php4. (it seems to try to download dependent files that rewrite .htaccess)

Anyone?

]]> 2008-05-15T12:21:50-08:00 Uploading the sample data http://www.magentocommerce.com/boards/viewthread/8222/ http://www.magentocommerce.com/boards/viewthread/8222/#When:07:16:14Z I’ve been looking for more on uploading or importing the sample data and I’m not finding much.  Is it just me ... or is there no “search” function on this forum?

I’ve installed Magento without the sample data, and discovered that I wish I had included it ... because it would have been a good guide on setup.  Making the categories and those cool static blocks/ landing sections (as seen on the demo) show up right from the start ... would be a good jump start on design ... just go in and edit what’s there.

Anyway, I know the sample db needs to uploaded first, before the installation. Right?  It can’t be imported? :-(

But the installation guide is a little vague:  It says it needs to be installed in a clean database, and to install the media files in your Magento media folder.  But ... there is no magento or media folder because the instructions say to upload this stuff first.  So do I create a media folder first?  Does it get overwritten during the install?

And for the database ... do I rename it?  What do I enter for a DB username and password during the install?  None of this is covered in the very short installation instructions:

Am I missing more complete instructions somewhere?
