Left Navigation?

I want to know if someone could give me a guide to move the top navigation to a left navigation in a frontend with 3 columns.
I want the left column to have the nav with categories and subcategories as it is now at the top.
It would be great to know because I think that here is one of the keys to learn how to design with Magento.

Modern Theme: Image Buttons don’t link to anything?

Still learning Magento after working with Joomla/VIrtuemart for the past 16 months.

I had to manually download & install the Modern theme via SVN.
Changed to 1 column, and added code to Home Page content area so my frontpage finally looks like the demo.

But, these image blocks/buttons on the right and bottom do not link to anything… are these images sliced? Do I need to assign a “Link to” place somewhere in the Admin?

For example, “Head over to Women’s>” image on top right does not link.

Neither does “Shoes” “Accessories” “Apparel” and “Furniture” Buttons

Any direction is appreciated.

I tried five times, everytime I put the extension key ( magento-core/Interface_Frontend_Default_Modern ), in magento connect manager, click install, then I got this information:

Have problem when setting Current package name.

I install modern theme with MagentoConnect complete. But when setting Current package name = modern. My shop can’t show anything.

I search this problem and found. It have problem because Modern theme install to folder app/design/frontend/default/modern

and folder skin/frontend/default/modern/

but same My Magento system request theme from app/design/frontend/modern and skin/frontend/modern/.

How can solve this problem ?

Hi All,
I installed Magento 1.3.2.4 without any serious issues last year.
I fully tested default theme in Magento, and everything looked fine to me. So, I decided on changing my theme to modern theme.

The problem begins here:
I applied for the modern theme to my website, and added products, and so on.
At first, it looked me perfect. However, after done everything (products, description, etc.) (spent lots of time), I found big problems on the modern theme unfortunately. As I am not a web desinger, I am not sure whether it came from the theme itself or any of my settings.

Please see the problems and figures here. I attached 6 figures for you to have better understanding the issues:

[1st Issue] Payment module
Fig01. Payment module issue: When I try to see my payment module in Default Config from Currnt Configuration Scope, on System Setting (Admin panel), there have been no payment modules appeared. Therefore, I can not set up any payment module.
Fig02. If I choose English on the menu further down, then everything is shown. As, I believe, Magento uses default config always, I have never had any chance to set a module up.

[2nd Issue] Strange windows (menu)
Fig03. This is my website designed myself based Magento 1.3.2.4 and modern theme.
Fig04. Once finished all necessary setting for my website, one of my friends figured a strange window out on the left-hand side. Please refer to Fig04 figure. Even if I did not touch anything, it has been always on. Before clicking E-Shopping, or Consulting & Service tab on the Navigator, it looks the same as this figure.
Fig05. Now, if I click E-Shopping, it shows me the full menu without any problem, but as you can see there, the menu actually moves from the far left to the right place.
Fig06. If I click Consulting & Service, now they will be switched each other.

I have tried to figure them out by myself for over 3 months, but no luck so far . I have got really tired of it, and tried the default theme in another computer, but everything over there was perfect. Currently, my website has been hosted, but I tested the default Magento theme at the same hosting company, even in a different directory. I do not want to stay out of modern theme, but tried to fix them instead. I have already spent so much time on this, so I do not want to think of wasting huge time on it, but fix them.

Can anybody help the issues what is the problems?
It has made me so desperate, but hopefully I can find some solutions here.

Can some one help regarding removing the Language chooser from the top left of the Modern theme.

Problem with front page formatting…

Sorry for the newbie question, but I am not a programmer :(

When I downloaded this theme and set it up, the front page got formatted wrong (Just the content area).
I like this theme and I really want to use it as a base.

Did I do some thing wrong? How can I fix this?

Multi language modification to Modern Theme

Hi there,

Installed correctly the modern from magento connect service...runs perfect.
Started translation into french / german for missing ones throug the online text modification
However, I wonder how to install gif buttons for those languages.

For example, the Add to cart button is placed here :
/skin/frontend/default/modern/images/btn_add_to_cart.gif

Is there another place to create language buttons ?
in a locale folder somewhere ?

Or I have to make forks from this theme for every language ?
