Magento’s upcoming 1.1 release will feature significant feature enhancements, including Custom Production Options (CPO) as seen in the video. CPO has been a widely requested feature by the community and we are excited to make it available as part of the upcoming release (expected by early July).

In this video, we show…

The new Custom Options tab in the simple product view.

Adding new options for color (drop-down), size (drop-down), and monogram (text field). Available input types include: text field, text area, drop-down, radio buttons, checkbox and multi-select.

Adding $15 for the Monogram option.

Viewing the updated simple product on the fronted with the Custom Options available for the customer to select.

Please note that the CPO module is still in development and minor changes are expected prior to the release. Magento 1.1 public alpha is currently available via SVN.

guys consider this:

i am selling a product which can be fully customized. i did some math and discovered there are 29,248,649,430 possible permutations of my product. Obviously it will be impossible for me to input this many simple products associated with my configurable one.

i was so excited once i discovered the custom options… especially when i saw the SKU field, assuming it would update inventory as everyone else did…

so… why is the SKU even there at all? am i missing something?

OK, I need to find out how to do this one… I build custom wedding albums for wedding photographers. These are completely custom and the photog chooses whatever options they want. Now, let’s say I have 2 size books, 8x8 and 12x12. 8x8 has more limited options than 12x12 in many different ways. You can get imprinting on a 12x12. So, I would like the client to be able to choose from a drop down of book sizes. Depending on what book size they choose, different options will pop up according to their availability for that size chosen from the dropdown. Is this makeking sense to anyone? I am not sure what way to go.

thanks and i would appreciate any suggestions.

I completely agree with tronics and the rest that the CPO still needs:

* Stock entry per attribute combination
* Attribute templates

I also feel that the CPO needs some type of picture functionality.

For instance, you have two shoe colors: black and brown. When the end user clicks the drop down the pictures change accordingly.

I agree with @rumblepup and others. Recreating the custom options for multiple like-products is overwhelming....and I would do it via import, but there doesn’t seem to be a field to properly import all of the necessary info. There is a ‘required_options’ t/f field and ‘has_options’ t/f field, but I can’t seem to specify the actual options, default options and pricing structure.

I hope the template feature can be implemented or someone finds a workaround.

I hate to say this, but because we are not able to build the product matrix we need with Magento (as well we found it to be slower then other choices) so we had to go with another cart. I would love to use this software but to me tracking inventory properly is one of the most important things to have locked down. If a company can not track things properly and EFFICANTLY then it will never succeed.

A word of advice to the creators is maybey they should go look at how a point of sales program handles inventory. Magento has some great ideas but until this is locked down and set the way a business needs to track inventory it will never work for any of my clients.

How do I create a simple product, with an attribute which is a drop-down menu that contains all the colors that I have a particular product in without having to create individual products for each color.

Prior comments mention the lack of inventory… does this mean there is or isn’t (choose one: IS [_], ISN’T [_]) a required simple product with the same SKU in the database?

It’s a great step in the direction we need to go to populate our stores!

47 x avg 3(colors) x 17 bandsizes x 11 cup sizes = 26,367 entries of all the attributes of our current product line, with new styles coming in 90 days…

The device for all of this in the old openacs system made it simple, and, in ZenCart it is very effective.

However, we are really wanting to be able to use magento for all its other features, so how do we get templated options and option sets in this manner?

This is a workable solution for one of my client’s needs ONLY if it allows for tracking inventory as well. For example my client sells high-end sports equipment where for a given model, different attributes have different prices and their inventory levels need to be tracked and their availability status displayed on the frontend. Otherwise the configurable product method (as painful as that is) seems like the only way. Bummer!

Also without an attribute template entering a lot of t-shirts (for example) will be akin to the Bataan Death March…

But 1.1 does seem to be a move in the right direction…

This looks like a great feature! However, I have one big problem with it. This makes manual entry of a lot of products with similar attributes very, very time consuming and inaccurate.
Is there anyway to create an attribute template that can just be applied to a product?
In the example movie, you show a shirt. But what if you have a group of 50 shirts that have the same attributes? If it was an attribute template, then I could just open up the product and apply the attribute template and all is done. If there are small differences, you can apply them at this point.
The attribute template could be an xml file, that you preconfigure.
