I really hope the server they use for downloads will be able to handle the flow and not have a total meltdown.

I will also host a copy of the download to relieve some of the congestion if the need so arises.

Although I am not a fan of busy ecommerce pages, I think the design above is a good proof of concept showing how the various features of Magento work together. Something for developers and designers alike to get busy with to see how it all comes together and how you can move further.

Will there be a way to block rude and abusive users from magento?

One way I felt this could be easily done without using the IP method would be to use the customers name and part of the credit card numbers.

If you don’t know how to change it, hire a qualified developer to do it for you.

What are you basing your assumptions on? Have you seen something the rest of us haven’t?

Have you implemented Magento?  Examined the code?  Spoke with the developers?  The only thing I’ve seen so far is screen shots made in Photoshop, and a few blog entries.  Why not save your observations about stability until you can actually back it up?

I imagine the community site will be as busy as this blog with all these comments, if not more so. There’s a lot of buzz right now around here, I can sure hear it…

However, I think to those who DO take the risk in using the preview release, it’ll only speed up the bug fixing and refactoring, etc. 

I just hope that we have an active community of people who can post bugs and bug fixes UNTIL the next stable release…

I need to launch a store and have been waiting on the Beta.

Anyone knows how one will go about translating the contents of the front-end (store)?

That’s not to say that it won’t be a quality solution, even with beta1. As with any beta, it’s a testing phase before the production version is ready. So by using it in a live production environment, you are taking risks and will have to deal with any consequences if something bad happens. But when it all comes down to it, you still have the choice to use the beta. We just won’t recommend doing so.

Also, I’m not sure of the relevance of having the “Compare Products” box on the frontpage, but that is a completely different topic (and I know that its template driven so that part is optional).

Love the cart, I can’t wait to see it later this month.

to better explain here is a quote from roy Aug 22.

“Magento Beta1 (preview version) is to be released by the end of August. As the version implies, it is a beta product and we will not recommend using it in production environments at this time. (thanks Martin for picking up the other question)”

As with everything else in the world of beta software. Magento does not recommend using this software for a live store under beta 1.

It’s not to say you can’t, but until some of the bugs get found and worked out I myself would not want to risk loosing any clients or customers because of the possibility of an unknown glitch.

Is the beta 1 solid for live site? I already putting two clients’s site on hold since early of July. Starting on September if I still can’t give them this sweet baby I am afraid I need to use Zencart or they find someone else :(

I’ve been seeing a new junk mail going around that says something like:

Dear Friend,
Thank you for subscribing to xyz site.

Then it proceeds to give them their “username” and “password” and a link to the phoney site. This doesn’t have to do with newsletters specifically, but as with most junk mail, it will not address you by name. And so that’s why I do like to get their name.

Of course, Magento is flexible enough that this should be easily extendable to provide the name functionality, but to save time for people who want it, an option to collect the name would be nice.

will magento offer multilanguage support right from the start? (german)

Would be pretty easy to do with GD or image magick and really give users an easy way to get great looking graphics in their shops without being designers
