Features: Admin Order Management Preview

There are a few new features in the next preview release of Magento (expected later this week), and we are especially excited about the Order Management functionality in the Magento Backend.

In short, this allows orders to be made from the backend, both for existing customers and for new customers. In future releases the Order Management functionality will be extended to a full-fledged Order Management tool with more advanced functionality, but let's take a look at how the Create Order feature works now.

Order Management Highlights

Currency can be selected per order.

The customers shopping cart is visible in the create order screen. The admin can move items from the shopping cart to the order (and vice versa).

The customers wish list is visible in the create order screen as well. The admin can move items from the wish list to the order (and vice versa).

The items in the customers compare box are visible. The admin can move items from the compare box to the order.

Products can be searched/filtered and added to the order.

Customer can be assigned to a different customer group (if needed).

@Brady - This release will not include refund functionality, but this will be coming in future releases.

@prench and hcristovao- The admin order form will allow you to overwrite the product price, and you can then run the order with this new one-time price for the product. At this time it is not possible to add the product with this price to the customer’s cart, once the item is added to the shopping cart it will reflect the current price for that product/customer group.

@Bub - At this time the product comparison in the backend will only show the items the customer has already added to their compare list, but does not allow you to view the comparison. We will take that idea into consideration for future releases.

I’m in a similar boat to phrench.

I sometimes need to give my customers that call in a special price or a custom package deal and it would be really nice to be able to process the whole order while I’m on the phone with the customer without creating a new product or putting them in a special group.

Great work guys…

I can’t wait for the debut!

Bravo ! Very good idea !
We had expected but not dared to hope!
Ideally, we would advise to customers with a tool for comparison with information only present on the Back (advantages, inconvéniants, product margins ...)
Another idea: This system command prompt would be welcome also on the Front for customers already known.
no?

Btw: Will there be the possibility to give a special price for a product to a single customer? I’m not speaking about customer groups, I know it can be achived that way.
I’d really like to be able to put a product with a custom price into a customers cart.

My idea behind that is to automatically proceed auction orders (e.g. from ebay) within magento:
- check if email exists in magento, if not: create customer
- add product with auction price into cart
- send email with link to cart to customer
