Video: Bundle / Kitting in Magento 1.1
Magento’s upcoming 1.1 release will feature Bundle / Kitting functionality as seen in the video. In this demonstration, we show ...
- Creating a new computer bundle, composed of the following user-selectable options: Case, Hard Drive, RAM and optional monitors.
- Selections (eg. 1 GB RAM, 2 GB RAM) within each Option (eg. RAM) are composed from Simple Products.
- Each Option may present its Selections in a variety user-inputs (eg. radio button, checkboxes, drop-down, etc.), and may be required or optional.
- Pricing is dynamically calculated based on the user selected Option(s), using the Simple Products pricing.
Please note that the Bundle module is still in development and minor changes are expected prior to the release. Magento 1.1 public alpha is currently available via SVN and a production release is expected in July, 2008.

This is good. Can’t wait any longer for 1.1 ...
Ideas for Additional Features in the Bundle / Kitting functionality:
- Adding optional explanatory textfield under each Option (in smaller font size).
- Adding optional image for each User-selectable option (graphics sells, and to better visualize the option)
- Adding bundle discount (the most flexible would be to set this for each Feature level).

Hello Roy
My button “Add New Options” in page Bundle items has no action ! Why ?

"Pricing is dynamically calculated based on the user selected Option(s), using the Simple Products pricing.”
But if the Simple Product have tier price is not considered :s
Thanks for a response.
Good job

Absolutely awesome! This fends off one of the few arguments my employer has against upgrading to Magento for our online store. The next release is looking fantastic. norbolig’s sub-feature ideas are great, I second them and would like to add if I may…
Bundle Rules - Where the choices you make effect the availability of other choices. So, for example, in the computer bundle from the video if you selected a certain Case you could only have 512Mb or 1Gb of memory as 2Gb would not fit (not a technically good example but you get the idea).
Multi-page Bundling - Where you break up the configuration of the steps over multiple pages instead of hitting users with a possibly intimidating page full of options.
Magento is already a mighty force, keep up the good work, I look forward to implementing it!

Awesome…
I do have a question. Will ‘Bundle’ product be capable of the following:
Say we have a Blouse that has several sizes. If customers order at least 20 of these blouses in any combination of sizes..they will get them at a discounted price.
Again, great work by all of you.
thanks!!

Instead of adding the products one by one on eatch option, can’t we make that with the categories?
For example, if I want to have a RAM dropdown list, I would like to say to magento, put, as values of this combobox, all the products that are from the category RAM. ?
Thanks a lot

Bundle my friend I like you but how can I have you?
Magento Version 1.1.4
1) ISSUE:
The default bundle product Qty field as nothing inside. Should have
“1” as default.
2) ISSUE:
When creating Bundle Items, using a combobox (i haven’t test other), and that item is a simple product with a price already given (i.e. 40 Euros) when we add that simple product as a Bundle Item, the price goes to 0.00 instead of passing the simple product price (the 40 euros).
3) ISSUE:
By default the combox Bundle Items have no default items. That’s good. But if we choose a default Item we get stuck on a default item and we cannot go back to none. (this is a limit of the radio button, we cannot uncheck what we have done.
4) Feature:
If Bundle Items are not required then there’s no need for a message telling out of stock if the stock of one of those NON MANDATARY Items is not there.
When the user choose that Item,
then a warning may appear telling the users that, if they chose that item, then he should know that it’s not in stock (then he should or should not order according to the Backorders configuration).
5) Not Possible:
We can’t have the following product scenario:
A Computer with a basic configuration that, when the user wishes he can edit a specific part of the main configuration product, for example, upgrade memory. BUT, if the user don’t want to do that, we can just click BUY and get the Standard Configuration Computer.
Whe can create a my computer from scretch but we CAN’T have the customize this product option, when costumize is with PRODUCTS and not with Colors or Size (like in configurable products).
@Magento Team… any replys on this?
Regards,
Talofo

your video has no sound for me (Mac OSX 10.5.4, Firefox 3.0.1 and Safari 3.1.2)

I agree with talofo, most importantly on Issue 2. The functionality behind the bundle products would be to mass update simple products that affect bundle product pricing. By default the simple product price should be shown and not the $0.00. This would save store owners massive amounts of time with updating the associated simple products that would carry across to all of the associated bundle products.

Bundled products are great - and easy to set up too.
Norbolig and greenboyroy also have some great suggestions that would make it even better. If I may, I’d like to add the request that we have a “learn more” link against each of the simple product options to allow the store owner to specify details about the option for the customer to choose - a bit like Norboligs text line only with the ability to add more detail perhaps as a closable pop-up window. This would not be available on a dropdown though due to the nature of the dropdown interface.
The “bundle rules” greenboyroy mentions are a must for me too.
Thanks for this great addition to Magento.

Now let’s see you add that Bundle Product to an Order in the Create New Order Admin Screen? I can’t seem to add any Configurable, Bundle, or Grouped Items to an order?
23subhas |posted August 8 2009
you can’t add configurable or bundle items from order admin, i am working on a extension to do this if anyone is interested.
24winterradio |posted August 8 2009
Hell, if you can get custom options to appear in the admin when placing a manual order I am very interested.

Is the weight of the base Product and optional Products considered while calculating shipping charges?
