mCommerce: Magento iPhone Optimized Theme Available via Magento Connect
A new iPhone optimized Magento theme is now available via Magento Connect. As part of the upcoming Magento 1.1 release, automatic detection and delivery of packages, theme(s) (templates, skins, css, layouts) based on the user-agent (client) may be associated on a global, website and store view.
Magento is now mobile ready for every out of the box implementation.
UPDATE: Browsing demo.magentocommerce.com through iPhone displays the new optimized theme.

Looks great so far, even though I would recommend spicing up the home page of the iphone version a little (take a look at amazon.com for example). Search bar, Best sellers, ... on the home page would be great
When trying demo.magentocommerce.com on my iphone and putting the macbook pro into the cart I got an error saying something like “invalid entity type:customer” (not sure about the exact error). But the second time I put the Macbook into my cart everything went smoothly…
Great work so far guys

Mobile web is the new frontier, great to see Magento is on the forefront.

Unfortunately only the iPhone is supported. Maybe Windows Mobile devices too in the future?

Does this new template remove the heavy prototype/scriptaculous as well? Fitting on the screen is nice but not if it is still 230k too heavy. Would be nice to see a template without this so we can envision a new template using a much lighter library.

Awesome work guys! Is there any plans for an iPhone optimized administration console?

@litews - it does work using the same database and Magento instance.
@redletter - No plans for an iphone optimized admin at this time :(

Dang, I may take a look at that myself. I am currently working on an Adobe Air application to manage my Magento installation from the desktop; so the iPhone may be a logical next step.

@redletter - Sounds great. We’d love to see it.
