Magento Version 1.0.19870.4 Available for Download
We have just released Magento Version 1.0.19870.4. This version includes a patch for a bug with layered navigation issues in Magento installations with multiple store configurations.
After upgrading Magento to this version you will have to refresh the layered navigation indices.
Please go to ‘System’ -> ‘Cache Management’, check the ‘Refresh Layered Navigation Indices’ box and click on the ‘Save’ button. This operation might take some time depending on the number of products and stores in your database.
Instructions for Upgrading Magento with a full package, via SVN, via the MagentoConnect Manager and using SSH shell access are available in this wiki post.

Ok so I migrated a magento installation from one server to another one by copying the files over and changing the database connection info as well as the base url info in the database.
However now I am not able to upgrade using Magento Connect. The update fails because it is trying to write the files in the old server’s magento root directory.
Can someone point me to the right location (whether in the database or filesystem) where the full path of the Magento install gets saved?
Thanks,
V.F.

@V.F, You may want to open a forum thread for this in order to get better response.

I actually found the answer.
In case anyone faces this here is the fix:
1. Edit the file magento/downloader/pearlib/pear.ini
2. Change every occurrence of your old document root to the new one.
3. Save it and you are good to go!

What was the bug?I use multiple websites and I didn’t encounter any problem with the navigation.
Could someone explain it?
I would like to avoid the upgrade until 1.1,everytime i upgrade it’s likely i run into some problems

Why don’t you guys start to release patch for such simple bug instead of a full release everytime?

It may look like a full release but it only updates the Mage_Core_Modules from what I can tell.
The Magento connect manager handles updates pretty well and only updates what is new. So I don’t really see the point of a patch release if it is not to confuse more people…

The magento connect manager isn’t bug free,so it’s enough of a reason to make patch.
Just go have a look at the comments of all the patches and see people complaining of having to fix something everytime.
I had to reinstall everything from scratch because i were missing some features of the new version because I always used connect, and my cache wasn’t working anymore.
Also after reinstalling everything my site is much faster,so i suppose some file weren’t updated.

A ‘changed files only’ download would be much appreciated.

I tried doing this upgrade through the magento connect downloader (which required updating the downloader). When I upgrading everything, I went back to my store and I got a blank page! I’m going to try just downloading the new version in a zip format and starting fresh. Would it work ok to take my old database and use it for the new install? I have over 300 products.. and I really don’t want to have to readd them.

Bloggleme,
We can help you with your upgrade feel free to email us at magento (at) visualframes.com
Ultimately you want to figure out how you can manage updates through the downloader.
Have you made modifications to your Magento core files or default theme? Many people hire cheap freelancers out there to create themes or Magento tweaks for them. There is nothing wrong with that but you get what you pay for. You need to follow a certain standard when developing for Magento, and you need quality. We have had cases where the job was not done the Magento way and therefore could not survive an update. In most cases we are able to fix these issues.
