Magento Groups is now Live
It’s been a busy day at Varien and tonight we are announcing the launch of Magento Groups available at http://groups.magentocommerce.com or http://www.magentocommerce.com/groups.
What are Magento Groups?
Magento Groups is the place to organize, plan and collaborate on Magento projects. Projects can be on any topic (see examples below) and in any language. Users can start/join groups and view/post blog topics, add/edit wiki articles and participate interactively towards the project goals. Examples of groups include:
- Payment Gateway Integration: Protx, eWay, Linkpoint, 2Checkout, Moneybookers, Luupay, Chronopay, NoChex, Bill Me Later, WorldPay, PayJunction, etc. (partial list taken from the The Great Big Payment Processing Thread on the forum). We expect a group would be started for each provider.
- Shipping Carrier Integration
- Usability
- Accessibilty and Standards
- Online Marketing
- Search Engine Optimization
- Development for specific modules (for example: drop shipping, auctions, POS, subscription, etc.)
- Integrations with 3rd party applications (for example: Joomla, Drupal, Typo3, Quickbooks, Peachtree, MAS2000, etc.)
- And so on...
We started the first group - Search Engine Optimization - if this is a topic that interests you, we’d love to see you join
This is an exciting feature that will provide a common set of tools for the Magento community to interact. We hope you like and as always would love to hear your thoughts.

A Halloween launch… ahhh positively “Spooky”!
And also the launch of Magento Connect. I expect the community to really grow now.
Headed to checkout the groups now!

Great thanks!
One thing I did notice while setting up a group, is that the ‘Detailed Description’ doesn’t seem to show up anywhere. Is that a bug or a feature?

I think there is some problem with publishing wiki articles.
I created wiki article under Hebrew Translation Group and it was saved in the right Wiki section (All Categories -> Groups -> Hebrew Translation)
However it didn’t appear in the group itself while its activities are being viewed.
Is there any possibility to add RTL to blog postings?

@Kosta - we’ll check this out. Adi will follow up in regards to the RTL.

May I suggest a few useable features for Groups?
1. Possibility to view the list of all group members
2. Possibility to subscribe for email notifications for new blog posts and wiki articles
3. Possibility to administer group members (maybe some basic ACL functionality)

@Kosta, we have added a link to view all group members (1) and also email notifications for new blog posts (2). We are currently working on wiki notifications. (2). As for administering group members (3) probably not in the near future but we’ll keep it in mind. Thank you for your feedback.

is the groups code available so that I could include it with a project I am working on?
