Magento 1.1.0 Beta - Now Available
Magento 1.1.0 Beta is now available for download and upgrade via the Magento Downloader. Please note this this is a beta product and it is strongly not recommended for use in production environments.
The release notes can be found here. Detailed instructions of upgrading custom themes will be released shortly.
Installing Magento 1.1.0 Beta
To install Magento 1.1.0 Beta using Full-Package or Downloader go here.
If you use the Magento Downloader 1.1.0 Beta, it will install Magento 1.0.19870 (since the Downloader is configured to download and install the latest 'Stable' version which is 1.0.19870). After installation is done do the following to upgrade to version 1.1.0:
- Log into the Magento Connect Manager and go tho the 'Setting' tab.
- Change the Preferred State to Beta, and save the settings.
- Return to the 'Extensions' tab.
- Click on the 'Check for Upgrades' button (this is a new button added in the New Manager Version you just installed).
- After a few minutes you should get a few packages that are available for upgrade. For the Mage_All_Latest package select upgrade.
- Click on the 'Commit Changes' button. The upgrade should start.
- After upgrade is complete click on the 'Refresh' button.
- You should now have Magento 1.1.0 Beta installed.
Sample Data: Before installing Magento download and populate the sample data found on the download page, and go through the steps above.
Upgrading an existing Magento Version
It is now also possible to upgrade your existing Magento installation to 1.1 Beta through the Magento Connect Manager. To do so:
- Do NOT use your live or production site. We suggest making a copy of your site and upgrading that copy.
- Log into your Magento Connect Manager.
- Select the 'Setting' tab.
- Change the Preferred State to 'Beta', and save settings.
- For the Mage_All_Latest package select upgrade.
- Click on the 'Commit Changes' button. The upgrade should start.
- After upgrade is complete click on the 'Refresh' button.
- You should now have Magento 1.1 Beta installed.
Note: To be able to continue getting updates for 1.0 (and not upgrade to 1.1) - upgrade Mage_All_Latest to 1.0.19875 with 'Preferred State' selected to 'Stable' in the Setting tab of your Magento Connect Manager. This will install the new Magento Connect Manager that will allow you to select the version you want to upgrade to.
SVN
1.1 trunk was also updated. Please keep an eye on the list in STATUS.txt in the 1.1 branch root folder.
Feedback?
We greatly appreciate your feedback and suggestions in this forum topic.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Priorities can change and features may be moved to later releases. We know how important these features are to merchants, but we advise you to not make any serious business decisions based on an unreleased feature. UPDATE: A new demo store preview is available for 1.1.0 Beta at http://demo11.magentocommerce.com. Only front-end is available at this time. We will be adding some new products to this new demo store over the next few days

Great to see the pre-release guys!
Thanks for the great work and new features!

First of all, Great Job on the 1.1, we’re seeing some major performance boost, on both frontend and backend with this release.
But I got a little problem following the Magento Downloader 1.1 beta method. I followed the instructions and done things like setting from ‘Stable’ to ‘Beta’ status and a Check Upgrades...etc..etc..
But I’m not seeing any “Upgrade” option on Mage_All_Latest, as I only see Uninstall/Reinstall. However, I do see “Upgrade to 1.1” option on other modules like Interface_* Lib_*.
Any tips?
(scratch head)
Thanks again for a great product.

Yikes! Talk about bugs!
Where do I begin?
Gonna be a long night reporting these. Lots of blank pages in the admin among other errors.
I know....it’s Beta. Need more beer for this one....

@SimpleHelix.com - can you upload a screenshots of both the tabs of your Magento Connect Manager

I have just tried to upgrade to 1.1 beta and my site is completely broken, how can i revert to previous state?
6pldtm from Bordeaux, France|posted July 12 2008
First, good job for this 1.1 version, ready for european market.
With the downloader install, same problem than simplehelix.com. Setting on alpha or beta and Mage_All_Latest keep the stable state and no upgrade available. so all the other packages don’t upgrade except Lib_Google_Checkout.
the downloader package is in 1.1.0 stable
7cadessi |posted July 12 2008
Same as simplehelix.com and pldtm.

@Costa - did you read this point in the post above?
- Do NOT use your live or production site. We suggest making a copy of your site and upgrading that copy.
9Ecommerce-Store from Roma|posted July 12 2008
Where we can modify the customer registration fields? There isn’t this option yet? Because if is that’s not ready for european market.

When I tried to upgrade through magento connect it successfully upgraded to beta 1.1.0 but the changes doesnt show in the admin. I nowhere see the Virtual products options or the product custom options, or Canadian or EU taxes in the system->configuration. I tried to double check again in the magento connect and tried upgrading again it says ‘nothing more to upgrade’. it’s shows installed version beta 1.1.0.

Am i the only one to see many packages listed as 1.1 stable?
Are they really stable and not related to the beta?
12YoavKutner |posted July 12 2008
There is a problem with the PEAR Packages and we are working on fixing it right now.
We will update once it is resolved.

Relax people. We all know this is a beta-version. Throwing out error-reports in the comment-field for the update isnt the right way of doing things. Feedback, general error-reports, etc should be reported here:
http://www.magentocommerce.com/boards/viewthread/10063/
All bugs should (and MUST) be reported in the bug-tracking-area. If 1.1Beta doesnt exist yet, well then choose another version and just write its regarding 1.1Beta.
Magento is totally free for us and since we’re all part of the Magento community our way of paying back must be that we use the right channels to report back errors, general feedback, etc.
22SimpleHelix.com from Huntsville, AL|posted July 13 2008
So if it’s Beta, why is it showing up as Stable in the Extensions?
23SimpleHelix.com from Huntsville, AL|posted July 13 2008
Wait nvm, it is showing as Beta now

@Yoav:
Sorry I just noticed your comment now.
Anyhow it’s working now.
Thanks for the fix!

I find this “Known Issue” in 1.1 beta to be very interesting:
Checkout sometimes charges cards multiple times.
Any idea when that minor bug might be fixed?
27aDy from France|posted July 16 2008
Wahoo !! Great job !! Thanks for the new demo store
28Michael |posted July 16 2008
@brianpat : try to increase memory_limit in your .htaccess and/or php.ini. Or just make sure that Magento’s ones are used as by default it is set to 64M in Magento.
@jwebber : that issue happens under specific conditions. If you experience that problem you can join the discussion in this forum thread - http://www.magentocommerce.com/boards/viewthread/10966/

I have the same problem as SimpleHelix, pldtm and cadessi. I get nothing when I click “check for upgrades”. I’m running the alpha right now. Is that the problem? Is there a fix?
30brianpat |posted July 16 2008
I have already increased the memory_limit in .htaccess file as well as in php.ini file, but it still shows the same problem.

MagentoConnect lists 1.1 STABLE as being available, but I don’t see any mention of it on the blog, or on the download page. Is this a mistake, or are you just quietly rolling it out there first?
32medlington |posted July 17 2008
I see the same, I hope it has been released as I need to upgrade to this version today to fix the discount after tax issue.
33joff |posted July 17 2008
Fantastic work on getting 1.1 into beta! I know you can’t predict when it will move from beta to production but was looking for some ball park guidance - month, quarter, longer?
34brandondrew |posted July 17 2008
They’ve said elsewhere--this is off the top of my head so I might be off slightly--that we can expect it in late July or early August. Of course that’s not a promise, but they’ve been pretty good about hitting targets before. (Of course they originally told us we could expect 1.1 in late June or early July, and that ended up being 1.1 Alpha, rather than a production version as I had expected it to be. But now that they’ve specified a stable version for that target date range, I fully expect they’ll have it in that time frame.
(It might have been mid to late July that they said… don’t recall for sure. But that’s still in the same ball park: less than a month, and far less than a quarter.)
35RoyRubin from Los Angeles, CA|posted July 17 2008
@joff - we are looking at a July release for 1.1
36brandondrew |posted July 17 2008
Whoohoo! That means in less than 2 weeks we’ll have 1.1 stable.
@ RoyRubin: can you comment on the fact that 1.1 stable is apparently available in MagentoConnect? Is that actually 1.1 Beta, even though it says Stable there? Or are all the components listed as stable actually stable, but the remaining two pieces are all that is left to be completed before the whole enchilada is ready?
37Michael |posted July 17 2008
@brandondrew: That’s just a misleading columns order in the old Magento Connect Manager as those labels refer to the extensions you have already installed and not to the ones tha are available remotely. It shouldn’t let you to upgrade as actually those 1.1 packages are in BETA stability state.
To be able to continue getting STABLE updates for 1.0 (and not upgrade to 1.1 BETA) - upgrade Mage_All_Latest to 1.0.19875 with ‘Preferred State’ selected to ‘Stable’ in the Setting tab of your Magento Connect Manager. This will install the new Magento Connect Manager that will allow you to select the version you want to upgrade to.
Please don’t forget to backup everything (Magento folder and database) first.

The shopping cart is not working after fresh installation of this version. After I add any item I am getting message as below:

Is there any configuration necessary to do after installation.
