Designing for Magento Webinar - Recording Now Available

(view larger format on google video)

Although not close to the quality we wanted, the webinar recording is now available in .wmv format. The presentation starts off slow (so be patient) and then picks up. Don’t forget the slides that are very helpful as you listen to the presentation.

Thanks Roy.  Any chance you could encode a .mov for us as well?

Thanks.  And for your Flash conversion, just upload the video to a site like Daily Motion and you’ll be able to easily embed it (which you probably already know).  Then we can play it instead of having to download it:

We tried - the movie is ~ 50 minutes long and YouTube didn’t like it :( Do you know any other video sites that may not have limits?

Anyone want to take on converting the wmv file to mov? I’ve got my hands full right now smile

I can convert it to .mov. it will take awhile though. the download alone is looking like it will take at least 45 min.

@Mootrealm - Excellent thanks! I am also trying Google Video now for a flash option. Once you have the .mov PM me the link (or use mailbigfile.com) and I’ll get in on our servers.

I am happy to convert the .mov, but if there is going to be a flash version is it really necessary?

@Mootrealm - Some people like to download it and play locally. They can also convert it to iPod versions.

Point taken. I could make an iPod version too. They will take awhile though.

I managed to upload it to Google Video.  Waiting for it to be processed/approved.  I’ll post a link in the morning if you don’t beat me to it Roy.

    Hi all,

Great webinar!  The presenting was quite good, actually.  The recommendation I would have is set aside 15-30mins for Q&A;and perhaps have a roadmap to stick to.  Other than that, i thought you guys hits the mark.  First time is the toughest

    Roy,

Would it be possible to get a different format up, there is no way of playing MSS2 codec on OS X, as far as I know?

How about using stage6.divx.com to provide a higher res version?

Just to let everyone know, I tried to re-encode this in a mac friendly format but unfortunately none of my conversion tools like the file. I can only get sound in Quicktime with Flipformac. Squeeze doesn’t like it, and neither does VisualHub or Compressor. That is every high end conversion tool available.

@Roy - I PM’ed you last night to see if you had it in a different format that I can convert.

    I have a question:
How addons on firefox show me called phtml files?
In video have reds background .
    For example: frontend/default/default/template/catalog/navigation/top.phtml

@iguru - the red layers with the file paths will be available in the coming release.

Hi! I tried to move my cart to the left side and i followed step by step what Minu said and it didn’t work. Is there any chance that something happened in what she did that may have affected the result? Because using dreamweaver and firefox I followed every single step, then went to magento admin to set my_new_theme as layout but my cart stood in same place. I also tried replacing checkout.xml directly and it did not work either.
    Anyone with the same problem?

    Thank you very much

    28Michael |posted January 21 2008

@asfaltagmail - did you turn off the caches first (in admin System -> Cache Management) ?

  29. asfaltagmail

    29asfaltagmail from Buenos Aires, Argentina|posted January 21 2008

Michael: In Cache Management I have all of them “Disabled"… I suposse it is when they are turned off, isn’t it?
I don’t know how this cache management works but I think “disable” is the better option for viewing changes when I am trying Magento. What do you think?

  30. ohminu

    30ohminu from Los Angeles|posted January 21 2008

Yes, asfaltagmail- When you have cache management disabled, you will be able to see your changes immediately.

  31. asfaltagmail

    31asfaltagmail from Buenos Aires, Argentina|posted January 21 2008

Ok, Michael / Ohminu: Thank for your response. Then, there was another problem in my step by step to change the “my cart” position from right to left, because I have no problems with the cache and My Cart continues showing in the right, however I put “left” in checkout.xml

    Any other ideas?

  32. iritatvarien

    32iritatvarien |posted January 21 2008

    asfaltagmail,
the webinar uses release Beta 0.7.14800 for demo purpose. Please make sure you do not have a lower version - if you do, you will be working in main.xml, not checkout.xml.
    Hope this helps
