Building Configurable Products Fast
In version 1.0 we added a new way of adding simple products to configurable products. The new method is a quick and easy way of creating new simple products with only minimal data entry.
We have created a video that demonstrates this and which can be seen here.
(Of course you can always use Magento’s import product tool to enter the simple products and then associate them to a configurable product with a few clicks.)
We hope you enjoy this new feature.

This is a great way to import configurable products but is still a task for store owners with many attributes. When will the bundle product version be released?

@mytechfactory - We are working on adding this feature to the next minor release of Magneto.
I will keep the community posted about it as soon as we have more information.
Thanks

I love a lot of things about Magento, but I have to say (with all do respect) I REALLY hope the development team can get this configurable products thing figured out and made more simple. I’m a computer savvy person using the web constantly and spent 3 hours trying to figure out how to add a product that had a couple attributes like color, size, shape, etc. Craziness. I really hope more sense can be made out of this and the whole ‘attributes’ thing in general. Other than that. Keep up the great work--you have a great product (that needs some major tweaks imho)!

This is a really great feature, and I’m surprised you didn’t highlight it before. I had been instructing a a client on adding configurable products, and they discovered this before me - a very pleasant surprise!
For day-to-day management of a store with configurable products this is an excellent feature. Thanks again for your hard work!
Cheers,
Ross.

I totally agree with digital2k6. Even with this new feature, it just makes my brain hurt…
The process is SO awkward and tedious.

This does make this process much easier. Thanks!

When will the bundle product version be released ?
I see “2,bundle” in “catalog_product_link_type” table, but nothing more…

@nicolas46 - we are currently working on this feature and hope to have it released with Magento 1.1 at the end of June 2008.
Thanks

@YoavKutner - That’s awesome, I just downloaded Magento and have been a bit overwhelmed by the product creation process. It’s fantastic to know pundled products are so near in the future!

I have configurable products that have quantity 0;
But its associated simple products have some quantity values.
I need dropdown to display quantity(not text box as default),
Now how can i get the available quantity in dropdown; after the user selects the attribute “size” and “color”.

Its been a long time since this post, and after being in a company that builds magento sites for several months, I still believe the biggest weakness in the entire package is that it simply takes too many clicks to construct configurable products. It would be vastly easier if I could simply make a spreadsheet that had the required fields- specify all the simple products, then the configurable products they are associated with. I’d LOVE it. Heck, even if this were just an enterprise feature I know people that would spend the money.
