Patch For Magento Release 1.0.19700

The latest Magento release included a bug that was found today.

The bug will cause products to be deleted completely from the system when a frontend customer adds items to compare products and then clears all selections.

This bug was found in the latest Magento release, Version 1.0.19700, and is not known to affect version 1.0.

It is high priority for all people using Magento 1.0.19700, or who have upgraded to Magento 1.0.19700, to install this Patch.

Installing the patch:

1. Download either the zip file: patch1_1.0.19700.zip or the tar.gz file patch1_1.0.19700.tar.gz

2. Extract and upload the file CompareController.php or extract directly the archives to app/code/core/Mage/Catalog/controllers/Product/

Alpha Branch Now Available

We have now opened our Alpha Branch so that the community can see our work in progress.

The SVN checkout command can be found here.

Please note that this version is not recommended in any way to be used in a production environment and that we do not guarantee that any of the functionality or code will be made available in future stable releases of Magento.

We hope you find this useful.

Magento Community Translation Tool

image

An all new community translation tool is now available to make translating Magento to different languages as easy as possible.

This powerful in-line tool allows to work on a live interface and create translations, or suggest alternatives to existing translations. Translations can now be voted on as well and the moderators will be able to select the most appropriate suggestion.

There are now 3 ways to translate your language:

  1. Translate strings broken down by module via our Full String List tool
  2. Use the in-line translation live interface (much like the in-line translation tool on a local installation of Magento), to add and vote for suggestions.
  3. Download the complete package.

We will soon add the ability for moderators to make the translations available through Magento Connect.

If you’d like to get involved or don’t see your locale listed or if you have any problems or suggestions for the new tool, please contact us.

What are Magento’s Top Five Features?

Magento is a feature rich eCommerce platform. If you had to make a quick pitch to a client, which top five Magento features would make the list?

Here are our favorites:

1. Layered Navigation
2. Multiple site control from a single admin interface
3. Multiple themes and design flexibility
4. Catalog and Shopping Cart price rules (Magento’s rule-based pricing system)
5. Checkout Process - single page checkout and multiple ship-to addresses functionality

We left out some great features from the (short) list such as upgradeability (ability to upgrade without losing customizations), call-center functionality (order creation/editing), Magento Connect (MC) and package/extension distribution through PEAR, amongst many more.

What are your favorites? Let us know in the comments.
